The score to the Ethan Hawke-directed road movie THE HOTTEST STATE was largely written by New York singer-songwriter Jesse Harris, best known for penning the Norah Jones hit "Don't Know Why." Jones and Harris both perform songs on the film's soundtrack, as do Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Cat Power, Feist, and Bright Eyes. Harris's southwestern-influenced blend of country and jazz permeates the songs, giving THE HOTTEST STATE a musical and conceptual unity missing from many film soundtracks.
