2 of 5 Poor battery life Sunday, February 24, 2008 A Customer from Hamden, CT
This is likely our 5th or 6th roomba. For some reason, this battery had a very short life. I only use the unit in my small living room, & by 3 months out we had to purchase a new battery. While we like the robots in general, this one seems to have underperformed! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Pretty handy and also cheap Monday, February 18, 2008 kaan from New York, NY
I purchased i-robot about 3 months ago. It really cleans well if it's your main concern. It takes all the dropped human(or animal) hair on the carpet and even concentrates on extra dirty parts if it detects any.
However before you run it and let it clean for about an hour on its own, you have to make sure there is no place that i-robot can stuck. I had a couch and a gap under the heating system, and once i-robot tries to get under it, because the gap is not large enough for i-robot to move freely it can not get out and stop working. Also i-robot needs cleaning. If you are not a very clean person better clean i-robot after at most 2 usages. Otherwise it stops working after 3-5 minutes work and gives you alarm. For best result keep cleaning it.
Overall I really liked it. No need to lift the full-size bed and clean the carpet below anymore. However if you don't want to clean i-robot then better not buy it.

5 of 5 Very good investment Monday, December 17, 2007 A Customer from Albuquerque, NM
I would highly recommend this product. It picks up very well and is convenient to use, especially since you don't have to lug a heavy vaccuum up and down the stairs. It finds its way around the house and the sensors keep it within the areas of cleaning. I just purchased another for a family member. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 The iRobot's quality is terrible. Monday, December 17, 2007 A Customer from Diamond Bar, CA
The iRobot I bought worked only 4 times and died. The red light is on forever but just cannot get charged. I am really disappointed with the quality and money I wasted. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I could watch this thing all day! Wednesday, December 12, 2007 cpowalker@aol.com from Rancho Cucamonga, CA
What a fun product that actually works! I bought it on a whim and much to my surprise, my wife loves it! She's not usually a gadget person, so to see her sometimes moving it around the house with the remote control is really cool. Anyway, it cleans well, gets under the bed and other hard to reach areas, and does all the other stuff it promised... You'll not go wrong joining the Roomba club! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Fun Technology That Works Wednesday, December 05, 2007 Terry from SLC, UT
I bought the Roomba for my wife's birthday. We are still learning how to use it.
It does a good job on most of our carpets. We have a couple of rooms with old shag carpet. The Roomba doesn't handle the shag as well. Sometimes the Roomba will hit some tall pile and change direction as though it hit a wall.
The cleaning pattern isn't very efficient in rooms with lots of furniture. Sometimes, it will cover the same spot many times during a cleaning cycle because of the angles it takes when hitting an obstacle.
Spot cleaning is a very nice feature. The virtual wall works very well. Overall, this is a good product and fun to use. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Improved over the original model Sunday, December 02, 2007 Tom from Cohoes NY
Purchased this new Roomba despite some disappointment with the original Roomba purchased a few years ago (dirt capacity, battery life, performance.) The new generation is much improved. It still takes time to arrange a room for cleaning, and you must clean out the machine afterwards. That said, using the Roomba is still better than vacuuming a room yourself! I've found that this device works best if used regularly, both to keep its batteries working AND to keep the amount of dust and lint within the Roomba's limits. The price now ($140) is also better than when they first came out. Worth the money. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product that Saves You Time Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Diane H. from Hesperia, CA
I love my Roomba. I have hardwood floors and tile. I was pleasantly surprised that it ran over my small area rugs with no problem. It does a very good job dusting the floor and getting rid of my two dogs and one cat's pet hair. It's a great product that saves me lots of time per week. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 This things sucks...literally... Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Damon from Lexington, KY
I was a little skeptical when I first got the Roomba was but eager to give it a try. It worked great and really cuts down on the time I spend vacuuming. I still need a regular vacuum to do things like stairs, edges, etc., but the bulk of my vacuuming can be done with the Roomba now.
I wish it were easier to grab the charging station and take it to a different room b/c I usually do one room at a time and then just move it another area when it is done. The Roomba has a nice handle for carrying it with one hand but the charger is a little more cumbersome b/c it has a base, transformer, and cord to grab.
Overall, I think this is a really great product. I ordered a second one for my sister as a gift. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Big improvement over previous Roomba models! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Tacoma, WA
The battery life is amazing. On the standard "clean" mode the unit will run for upwards of 2 hours. (Thanks to the lithium ion battery).
The invisble wall unit is also a big help to confine the vaccum movements to a specific area. I'm looking to purchase a couple more.
I feel the overall quality of clean-up is equivalent to an upright vaccum.

5 of 5 A Must for a dog owner Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Paramus, NJ
I have 2 dogs at home and they shed continuously throughout the year and it was getting overwhelming. I got this for my mom for her birthday and she absolutely loves them. She seems to like the dogs more since she is not too stressed about their hair being everywhere.
It's not strong enough to replace a real vacuum cleaner, but it keeps house clean in between vacuuming on the weekends.
Don't expect this machine to:
1) run for 3 hours (it usually runs for an hour before the battery runs out)
2) return to its base by itself
3) pick up big particles
4) clean the carpets spotless
It does, however, leave the place clean enough to enjoy the place in between the real vacuuming. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 I am the one unluck!!!!! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Cypress, TX
It was weird the iRobot kept make rotation movement not go straight when it first time be used to clean my floor. I took long time to figure out that the spring was out of work that is under the cap of iRobot to make the iRobot move straightly or make the turn. Unfortunately, I missed 15-day warranty. 5 of 5 You need one of these! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Seattle, WA
This has to be the most practical "gadget" I've ever bought. If you vacuum on a close to daily basis, this is one of the best purchases you could make. It doesn't do a very deep clean on the carpets, but maintenance wise it's very good. If you have pets it's a must--it does great on pet hair. And of course there's the entertainment value of watching it figure out how to get out of a tight spot. Somehow, it always does. The only thing I wish that it had was the scheduling feature but I knew it didn't when I bought it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Much Better Than Expected Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from San Antonio, TX
We thought that a Roomba might be an acceptable supplemental floor cleaner for us, but it ("she") has proven to be very good at cleaning our tile and carpeted floors. Our house has about 2400 sq ft of living space, and we've learned to divide the house into about 4 separate cleaning zones. Not only is it nice to read the morning paper or do other activities while Roomba does her thing, but the amount of pet hair and debris - especially under beds, chests, and other hard-to-reach-and-see places - that she picks up is quite amazing. We now use our Dyson vacuum much less frequently than before, and our floors seem to be much cleaner by using both the Dyson infrequently and Roomba frequently.

5 of 5 Goodbye Dog Hair Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Lexington, KY
I have a Corgi that can shed faster than I can vacuum. I purchased the Roomba in an attempt to keep my wood floors clear of the mutt's fleece. Now, on short notice, I press start and my worries are over. Floor gets swept and the Roomba returns to charge itself for the next venture. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Nonreturnable defective product Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Wellesley, MA
The Roomba broke down after the first use. Since this is not returnable to buy.com, I had to call iRobot for an exchange. iRobot sent me a refurnished Roomba. I basically got a refurnished Roomba at a brand new price. Is this how they try to sell refurnished Roomba? Isn't this a ripoff? By the way, you also have to pay the postage to send the broken Roomba back to iRobot. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Saves time and effort! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Birmingham, AL
This is our second roomba purchase. We liked the first one so much that we decided to get another one to keep upstairs. They will not get in the corners and you have to situate cords and other items before you start the roomba in a room, but it does an excellent job of cleaning the floor. The need to clean out the filter compartment after each cycle proves that it really does get up the dirt. Highly recommend. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 works on tile Wednesday, November 28, 2007 vacuum averse from Iron Mountain
I bought a Roomba after seeing positive reviews for over a year. I thought it would be more of a novelty than a useful cleaning device. I moved into a home with lots of tile/grout floors and thought the Roomba may not be a good choice. Well, I saw a good deal at buy.com so I bought it.
The thing has been working out really well. It seems to do fine maneuvering across the grout seams and it doesn't leave dust in the depressions. It also works well on low shag carpeting and around tables and chairs. I try to remove a chair or two to give the unit more room to move and just alternate the chairs I move around each day. My unit came with one invisible wall. It's easy enough to put something along an exit though it has to be quite heavy or the unit will move it when it bumps into it. A second wall would be handy.
The artificial intelligence works well to guide the Roomba around in multiple room arrangements. My only complaint is that the battery now lasts only about 30-40 minutes after a month of use. I leave it at the charger always when not used per the instructions, but that does not help. Add a better quality battery and I would give it 5 stars. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great gift for multi-taskers Wednesday, November 28, 2007 pattie from New York
I purchased the Roomba just to check it out. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I start the roomba while I'm cleaning another room or another part of the same room. It works very well on both floors and rugs. It's cool that it won't fall down steps. The only tiny thing I don't love is cleaning the brushes. It's not hard but it takes me a little while to remember how to reassemble it. If I needed another one, I'd buy it. I plan to buy one for my mom for Christmas. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 IRobot Roomba, simply marvelous Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from New Rochelle, NY

5 of 5 love it Tuesday, November 27, 2007 A Customer from La Jolla, CA
really love this Roomba! It's the best vacuum I've ever had. The only thing annoying is to clean it every time after use.... maybe I'm just too lazy :p Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Nice gadget ... not much more Tuesday, November 27, 2007 A Customer from Huntington Beach, CA
This little gadget is fun to watch, but falls short of being a true useful tool. I still use it, but I would not buy it again.
Before I bought Roomba, I was under the impression, that I could start it in the morning and come back in the evening to a clean apartment, and it would clean the entire apartment going from room to room, returning to recharge to the home base when needed then continuing to clean until it was done, or until the dirt bin was full.
Well, either Roomba cannot find the recharge base or its programmed to return to the base only after it deems the cleaning job finished. So unless the to be cleaned is small enough for Roomba to finish the job, Ill find it with the battery depleted wherever it run out of juice. Then I have to manually put it on the base and wait hours before I can run the next job. I contacted iRobot, and they sent me a replacement base, but that did not change the behavior.
The dirt bin is too small and I have to empty it after cleaning each room. The brush and the rubber paddle wheel seem to get full of carpet fibers that get stuck on each end of the brush and the paddle wheel, and it takes some effort to clean them every time I empty the dirt bin. I also dont like the fact that I have to buy an expensive replacement paper filter once a month or so. I think that a washable cloth filter would be a sufficient option.
I have to move chairs and other stuff on the floor for it to reach certain areas of the room. With a normal vacuum cleaner, I can move chairs a few feet and place them back right after I vacuum under the table. With Roomba, I have to take them out of the room or place them on the table, which is not always convenient.
Finally, I like to be thorough when vacuuming, going methodically from one side of the room to the next covering every inch of the floor fairly evenly. It does not give me much comfort, when I see Roomba doing its dance in a seemingly random pattern crossing certain spots multiple times while some spots seem to be crossed only once or missed completely.
