| The Roomba iRobot 430 Vacuum Cleaning Robot is not only easy-to-use, but it also includes an array of convenience features. Simply press the Clean button and the vacuum's artificial intelligence determines the room size and adjusts automatically from wood, tile, linoleum and low-to-medium pile carpet. Integrated sensors detect dirt and increases intensity of cleaning in that area. A three-stage cleaning system and a wide cleaning path uses counter-rotating brushes that scoop large debris into the dustbin and a vacuum to pick up fine particles, dirt and pet hair. Its edge-cleaning spinning side brush, combined with wall-following technology, removes dirt and debris from the base of walls, from corners, and other hard-to-reach places. The vacuum's stasis sensor detects when it's stuck and employs pre-programmed escape routines to free itself.

I work out of my home and I have the unit plugged in close to my front door. I start it up every time I go out and I come home to a clean apartment! I have hard wood floors and some area rugs and it does both surfaces plus goes under my sofa. I run it nearly everyday and I'm amazed at how much dust it picks up. I rinse the filter with warm water a couple of times a week and have never needed to replace it. I had to replace the battery once but other than that, I've had absolutely no problems. Sure it is easy to use, but this should not replace your regular vacuuming. It only does a surface cleaning on rugs.
Had mine for 6 months and used daily, and battery no longer holds charge. Replacement batteries are expensive.
About 1/2 the price of buying a new Roomba.
Compartment that holds debris, needs to be cleaned often (doesn't hold a lot) as well as the brushes.

After reading other reviews of the Roombas and talking with people who actually have one, I finally ordered my Roomba Red. It is everything I thought it would be. It isn't a substitute for a periodic deep vacuuming, but it picks up the daily dust and cat hair etc. from my hardwood floors and area rugs while I do other things. I bought this for my wife for Mothers day(an OCD housekeeper who vaccuums daily). I never thought it would clean to her expectations but thought it would help reduce some vaccuuming. Wow. She won't shut up about this vaccuum cleaner. She was skeptical until she emptied the bin and was suprised to see how much dirt it picked up. Now it's as if she gets a "high" seeing just how much dirt will be in the bin. She uses it several times a day and has me looking at the high end ones now. If it made her happy it should make the average housekeeper happy. Was this review helpful?
