5 of 5 A must have on the Xmas list! Wednesday, December 03, 2008 Bill from Westchester, NY
I am quite floored with this technology. Some gadgets bank on the "hip" factor, this one banks on the "did you see what I just saw!" factor. You use the pen to grab text off books and, through some kind of text recognition, what you scan pops up in your email, or wherever you are typing. All I know is that it was easy to install, easy to calibrate, and easy to use. Of course it's not perfect, and some text needs to be scanned a couple times or minor things fixed. It does what it's supposed to do, as long as you read and follow the directions. I am giving high praise as it is also Mac compatible Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So easy, a caveman could do it Friday, May 09, 2008 Lizzy from Boston, MA
I;m not sure what the fuss is about this pen scanner. I bought it and it works great! My 12 yr old daughter even used it without a problem. Its a great tool to use, and definately a time saver. Was this review helpful?

The IRIS pen scanner was affordible to buy and I am very happy with the product. It is very easy to use and helpful both at work and for tasks at home. The OCR software is accurate and is a time saver! Was this review helpful?

I bought this scanner pen to help me with graduate school research. I was somewhat disappointed with how difficult it is to actually use. The material that I scanned it needed a great deal of editing, so in the end I'm not sure that it saved me that much time. The plus is, of course, that notes are typed immediately, which does remove a step from research work. Was this review helpful?

When I purchased this I tried several times to get it to copy a sentence from a book, not a perfectly flat surface but it seemed reasonable to expect that it should be able to do that.I never succeeded, and gave up that day thinking ," I'll try again another day" ; that day has come and gone and I still can't get the pen to copy accurately,I've also tried a flat surface for the copy with no success. It randomly misreads letter sand substitutes an odd array of numbers or symbols, frequently enough that going back to correct it isn't worth it. It would be easier to flat scan a whole page and delete the sections you don't want. Was this review helpful?

You can tell there is not much competition in this area. Had to install it twice to make it work. Many more scan-to-text-errors with printed text that I'd expected. Awkward to hold and scan with despite it's pen-like look, especially because I'm left-handed. All said, though, I'd buy it again because it's a great time-saver for a writer who quotes others a lot.
