4 of 5 ZIP100 USB--it does its job Thursday, September 27, 2007 A Customer from Arlington MA
Say what you will about the Zip100 disk format--it may be obsolete, but for those of us who still have gigabytes of important data on scores of 100-Mbyte Zip disks, we'd be in a major bind without a Zip drive. As with most new PCs, my new laptop lacks a parallel port and thus lacks a place where I can easily connect my original Zip100 drive, which still works perfectly. So I sprang for a Zip100 USB drive and have had no problems with it. As with most mass-storage devices, the drivers are built into Windows XP, so driver installation was not necessary. The only feature of the old drive that the new one lacks is auto-eject of the media when you shut down the PC. Not a big deal for me. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Iomega Customer Service Poor Monday, July 02, 2007 Michael A Duchesneau, MD from Tampa, FL
Unit was dead out of the box, and Iomega has carefully insulated themselves from receiving calls from customers. Documentation says not to contact seller with problems, but to only deal with manufacturer. When I finally did get a live person, I was told "we don't publicize our phone number; that's how we keep our prices low." This is an absolutely unacceptable way to treat customers. After getting through two levels of bureaucracy and supervision, I finally got someone to agree to "expedite" an advance replacement, but it was still shipped via ground, despite promises it would be sent by air. I'm hoping I never have to deal with Iomega again, as I certainly don't intend to buy anything else from them. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Good product so far; hope it lasts much longer tha Wednesday, September 13, 2006 Darren from Weatherford, OK
I had a 100-mb zip drive that looked different (sort of boxy looking, slightly bigger and it could stand on its side or sit flat) than this one I just ordered, slightly smaller, sleeker, but can only lie flat (no way to have it stand in narrow spaces by itself). The old drive wasn't reliable at times, then it just up and quit on me. It's probably due to the fact that it used a parallel port instead of the USB that I went for.
Anyway, I hope the new one is much more reliable, and it has been so far. Its USB port, which I like a whole lot better than the big old dinosauresque parallel ports, makes it easy to hook up and use right away. Sits flat nicely without using up too much space. I wish it could stand on its side but I'm okay with that.
This new product has been good to me and I'd recommend it. Hopefully it lasts much longer than my old one and it's nice to have extra storage capabilities again. Was this review helpful?
