1 of 5 Find another solution Saturday, January 05, 2008 bob.bessette from Pawcatuck, CT
I reccomend that users search for another solution rather than use this Iomega product. The fan is extremely noisey and setting it up for user access is difficult at best. I have had to make numerous compromises with the set up just to access the unit. Support is non-existent. I kick myself for not sticking with Maxtor. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 So So Results Friday, December 28, 2007 A Customer from Upper Marlboro, MD
I too found this unit to be quite loud. I have yet to be able to successfully set up the built in print server, and documentation on the subject is scarce. Another problem I encountered is when I chained a 500 GB Western Digital MyBook USB drive to it, existing folders on the MyBook are not visible and are therefore inaccessible. However, the main reason I bought the device was for network storage, and that feature works well, once I figured out (again relying on scarce documentation) how to create users/shared folders/assign share rights to users. I can tolerate the noise (it's useful in that the noise reminds me to turn the device off when it's not going to be used for long periods)... can anyone offer any suggestions on setting up the print server? Iomega's web site didn't offer any clues that I could find (I'll try again at some point); hopefully telephone tech support is available. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Noisy, difficult setup Monday, December 17, 2007 DFRA_SF from San Francisco, CA
Bought this as a replacement to an older NAS device and found it to be difficult to setup as it does not seem to be true PnP. Most annoying was the noise that it makes...I would have to have put it inside a closet and covered it to not hear the whirring of the fan. Found a LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini that is quieter than my laptop and was up and running after plugging it in. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Keep this is a seperate room Wednesday, December 05, 2007 A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
When I bought this I was excited to get an all in one solution to provide a network drive, media server and print server. Within 5 minutes of plugging the hard drive in I became so annoyed at the volume of the fan I lost all excitement. You can hear the fan from the other room, it's not a squelling it's just an overly loud blowing noise. I'm not that impressed with the setup or the help manual. So far I have 4 hours into it and the PS3 won't recognize the files on the media server and the print server shows the printer but an error won't let the configuration be saved.
