5 of 5 Wise buy 9/3/2010

This is the first time I am checking out a media player. Absolutely satisfied with the buy. Thought it would hang up on certain codecs, which dint happen. Intuitive in design and navigation. Altogether a wise buy.

4 of 5 Simple setup, easy to manage, plays anything, supe 8/25/2010
A customer from Basking Ridge, NJ
I have mine hooked up only to a TV and (wired) LAN for use exclusively as media storage/player, not using any of the "backup" functionality. PRO- setup took less than a minute. No additional software needed on any computers. Initially loaded it up with 200G of media over USB, worked like any other external hd. Now I push media to it over LAN for later playback. It hasn't complained about a format (codec) yet. Remembers where you were in a file if you stop and come back later. I manage folders and content over network from any PC, it looks and behaves just like a shared disk resource on it's own network device. Small, pretty, and unobtrusive. Does exactly what I need it to, less than 1/3 the price of a home theater PC. Generous 1TB local storage. Also, operates as both DLNA server and client with rest of network -- super flexible. CON- specs say it can do 1080p, best I can get is 1080i over HDMI. Interface is slow. It won't play just one file by default (at the end of one file, it automatically loads the next alphabetically listed one); you can change this behavior only for the file you're currently viewing, and it won't remember the setting. Online video (YouTube, etc.) is cumbersome, but expectations for this shouldn't be too high considering there's no keyboard. Mine "ticks" frequently, sounds like a hard drive clicking or the little fan hitting the housing; not a problem when watching something, but I have to turn it off otherwise. None of these "cons" are show-stoppers. All things considered, very satisfied, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

5 of 5 By far the best media player I hav ever used!! 6/21/2010
from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
For my home theater the screenplay director has been the High definition video quality plus ample store space. With 3 USB ports am able to use it on multiple systems and my Mac has atleast 150000 songs already loaded. I can stay in touch with RSS feeds any hour of the day. Protectionsuite software, strong backup and h.264 support have been some of the main reasons for my choosing this. Moreover I had to always format my FAT32 files on my previous mediaplayer. Am saved of this now.. My hdtv has become a hometheater in its truest sense, thanks to the Director!! When I bought it I thought it may go to grave in 6 months. But it has been almost a year since it has been set up and it's still going cool! I guess the only reason it could falter is when it is not supported by the right OS if using a comp or a nonhdtv if using it for movies.
Some of my buddies who also wanted to get one of this are also using it for their home network. One of them had a problem with configuration but it was due to OS failure. On my Mac, I dint need a video file converter for any of the file types on my library. Currently am only adding more to my library for my movie weekends!

1 of 5 complicated 6/9/2010
from Savannah
When I got this I immediately hooked it up. the setup was easy but then it went downhill form there. You have to use your computer to do any kind of use with the device. You have to setup an account with Iomega online and use your computer to set everything up. The use of the website menus are unforgiving. There is no ease in the operation of this device. It is slow to any input from the remote. There is no direct use of any kind of browser on the device. Overall disappointed. The same day that I received the device I have request a RMA to return the device.
