Product Guides

The Iomega REV 35GB/90GB (native/compressed) drive is a revolutionary removable hard disk system which is more efficient and reliable than traditional tape systems, while providing portable, high-performance file storage. Compressed capacity assuming 2.6:1 data compression with "high" compression on Iomega Automatic Backup Pro software. This capacity may vary since compression is data and software dependent. Iomega REV drives allow you to back up and restore up to 8 times faster than tape, access files in seconds with drag-and-drop, and secure your data with password protection. The drive also includes professional-level backup software for file backup and full system backup.

1 of 5 Easy to use but very expensive. Wednesday, September 03, 2008
Bryant Minard from Medford, NJ

Ths item works great as a dependable backup drive. Like any drive it will eventually break and when it does it becomes a through away drive. Iomega will not repair the drive. You have money tied up in the disks so you almost have to buy another new drive. No more, I'll buy passport drives from now on.

4 of 5 Does what its supposed to do. Tuesday, February 26, 2008
m. chops from Cleveland, OH
I'm on my second Rev drive. My first one failed after 3 years. It gets used every night Monday-Friday to back up my office data. I have 5 disks so can rotate my back up and keep the disks off site. It does what it needs to do effectively. My only beef is with IOmega's tech support. When my original unit failed they were unwilling to help me diagnose whether I had a software issue or if it was hardware failure. I wouldn't have minded if they said your unit is shot and needs to be replaced. I did mind that I had to do the research myself and conclude it was hardware related. I was angry enough that I would have searched for another back up solution, had I not already had my investment in the disks.

5 of 5 Nice form factor Tuesday, August 03, 2004
Bret from Las Vegas
I bought this (external) for home backups of a couple of networked computers (using Dantz Retrospect backup software). Installation is two cables and driver software, very easy. I haven't evaluated the compression factor, but I'm satisfied w/ uncompressed 35 GB, anything more is gravy. Inserting disks is a little clumsy in my opinion -- you have to press them in pretty hard (at first, I was wondering if I was doing something wrong). I would have preferred an automated load feature, rather than manual push. Discs are a nice comfortable size, considering their capacity, sturdy, easy to carry. In all, I'm happy w/ the product.

5 of 5 Get this drive! Friday, May 14, 2004
A Customer from Houston, TX
This drive combined with Retrospect 6.5 Professional is a killer backup solution for any home office or small business. I use this tandem to keep all of my PC's at my house backed up. Before I bought this drive I had a SATA RAID glitch that caused total data loss. I was using a DVD +R drive to do backups and because of the space limitations I guess I got lazy and never did a FULL backup of my data. To make a long story short with this drive I don't have to worry about running out of space and the Retrospect software does a nice job of compressing the files and only backing up what needs to be backed up. Like everyone else has mentioned the included software isn't worth your time. HTH

5 of 5 Amazing speed and capacity Friday, May 07, 2004
Nate from Atlanta, GA
This drive is an amazing alternative to a tape drive. You get speeds much faster than any tape and the flexibility and capacity of a hard drive. Iomega's software is not too good, but you could use any software with this drive, it appears as a CD-R drive to Windows. It's a good price, and very flexible. I would recommend it for storing backups of a desktop pc and music files.

4 of 5 Included Backup Software Crippled Thursday, April 22, 2004
Jeff Young from Raleigh, NC
The drive itself works as advertised, I am quite pleased. However, the Automatic Backup Pro software that comes with the unit will only backup local disk drives. I wanted to use it to backup a network drive. I have used it with an evaluation copy of Veritas Backup Exec (too pricey) with good results. I am going to get a copy of Backup MyPC, which should give similar results at a reasonable price.

4 of 5 Better than tape Wednesday, April 21, 2004
A Customer from NJ
I purchased this to replace my DDS3 tape backup. The speed, access and higher capacity are nice although I typically have been getting compression of 1:1.4 not the 1:2.5. Unfortunately there isn't a verify feature to make sure the file backup is accurate. I think this is a big downside for a backup device. With price of hard drives getting cheaper by the day, I'm not sure if I'm going to keep this or get an external USB case and buy a few drives to swap.
