3 of 5 The good, the bad, and the ugly Wednesday, August 13, 2008
A Customer from Overland Park, KS

The good - easy to install basic setup, good website (Iomega's knowledge base even helped me fix a problem with another brand's portable hard drive), and their online chat is prompt, accurate, and to the point. The bad - when I formatted the drive as a RAID1 array, it took some extra (undocumented) steps and help from the online chat to get it functioning again, and although it seems to work okay, the disk status says "offline" and no one knows why. The ugly - according to Iomega's user forum, I'm not the only one with a disk status of offline when formatted as RAID1, AND they say you just have to "trust" that it is really mirroring. Trust that there's a mirror when the User Guide says "offline" means there is a disk problem? Our data's more valuable than that! So - good price for a nice piece of equipment with good support - BUT look for something else if you're wanting a RAID1 array.

4 of 5 Generally Happy, but it is slow Thursday, March 13, 2008
Ben X from Beverly Hills, Ca
I am moderately computer savey. Was unable to get the software to work, until got some help from Iomega tech support. Apparently the problem was the setup routine was not correctly stated in the manual on the CD with the unit. After that was fixed, had no problems setting the unit up as a backup drive for one networked computer, and as a mapped drive for another to temp use the space not used by the backup. After 3 months, everything is working fine, except my network is all 1000 mbps, and the fastest this unit has ever accepted data in a stream is about 45mbps. Suggest a little large case for better cooling might be a good idea. Generally, very happy so far, just set up large transfers, and let them run overnight, deals with the slow transfer problem.

5 of 5 Happy with product Thursday, March 13, 2008
Ben X from Beverly Hils, ca
I am moderately computer savy. I purchased this unit, and attached it to the network, and could not get the software to work. Called Iomega, and they quickly solved the problem. It was a change in the setup routine that was not in the documentation on the CD with the device. After the prior problem was corrected, it quickly configured as a backup drive for one computer on the network, and as a mapped drive for another computer to use the space unused by the backup. Had for 3 months, and no problems so far. I think a little larger case for cooling might be a good idea. Generally very happy, hope it continues to work as now.

3 of 5 Just okay Thursday, January 24, 2008
A Customer from Chicago, IL
The software for this thing is really rough. At one point I lost all control of the shares and resetting the defaults/formatting/etc. didn't clean things up. I was about to send it back when I tried to delete the guest account - this fixed the shares? Weird. I went with the Iomega because it is the only one with NFS at this price. Unfortunately, the NFS support is extremely limited. The good is it has NFS, it is a TB, a Gb network, at a good price. Now that I have figured out how to manipulate the software, I would probably buy another if necessary.

5 of 5 Great Deal, easy to use, so far so good! Wednesday, January 09, 2008
Rindie from Elk Rive, MN
I bought this network hard drive after the holidays here for only $310, which I thought was a great value. I needed network storage for backups and storage. I also needed it to be on the network so i could roam free with my laptop. It fulfills all of those needs! My computers recognized it right away and I didn't even have to install their drive recognize tool. The first thing I did was click a couple of buttons to switch it to a RAID 1 configurations and then I was off copying my external hard drive onto it. I highly recommend this product.

4 of 5 Works well, but problems with Vista Wednesday, December 12, 2007
alanckellogg from Draper, Utah
It fired up and the software found the unit. Data moves well, but there is some functionality on the software that does not work. Probably due to Vista. Setting up users and file system is not as easy as LinkSys NAS. Much faster than Linksys NAS.

1 of 5 Beware. Very poor implementation Monday, December 10, 2007
John Peterman from Minneapolis, MN
The price/brand will fool you. This is a very poor implementation of NAS. The unit crawls to a halt if more than one person accesses the unit or more than one transfer (by the same user). It is very easy to hose the interface where you end up with directories that can only be deleted by formating the drive. When a drive fails, there is no notification (confirmed by Iomega support. Stated they are working on it.) Returned 10 units after spending hours on the phone with Iomega. They confirmed that many people were having the same problems.

5 of 5 Great product for the price! Wednesday, November 28, 2007
questtt from Horseheads, New York
I am a Mac user and have had a hard time finding a networkable solution that will work quickly, easily and without hassle - but this system worked just as advertised - right out of the box. I set it up as a RAID system and copied my files over ( I was replacing an older network drive archive with no RAID capabilities ) So far it has worked flawlessly and I am very happy with the system.

3 of 5 Very Noisy Sunday, October 28, 2007
A Customer from Charlotte, NC
This is too noisy to keep it in the study room. Drive also creates a chirping sound when it is working. It has a very poor documentation. CD does not have documenation for Media Server. You need to use the online documentation. (Online doc does not have icons used on the page. Nor do they have 'alt' value on those images) I had to return it due to its unbearable noise level.
