3 of 5 Died after one day 12/2/2009
Steve from Castle Rock, CO
I purchased this wireless hub in hopes of moving some of my seldom used equipment in to the closet to unclutter my office. The idea is great, the execution fell a bit short, or maybe I just got a lemon.
As others have said, the setup isn't quite as simple as a regular hub. You do have to install some software, even on new OS's and "pair" the hub to the receiver. Its not difficult, but without reading the directions, you'll never figure it out. I dowloaded the newest driver and firmware from the website and installed those instead of the ones that came in the box. Once paired, the hub came right up. I tried it out by hooking up a flash card reader and was able to read and write the cards wirelessly at what seemed like a quite reasonable speed.
Thats the good news.
The not so good: It is limited on the types of devices you can connect. I tried hooking up a video capture box and received a message stating that I had plugged in an incompatible device. I suspected there might be some limitations when I bought the hub, and was disappointed to find my suspicions were confirmed. Unfortunately I never got the chance to try any other devices.
The really bad news: After running for less than a day, the driver crashed with an exception and offered to send the error report back to the manufacturer. So I did. But since that time, I have been unable to get the hub to function at all, even after rebooting. It appears the hub portion has completely died. The light no longer comes on, even if I try to connect it directly to the PC in wired mode. Looks like total hardware failure.
The price is good, and it's a nice looking unit, I just wish it hadn't died. If it had been compatible with all the devices I was trying to run, I might be tempted to get a replacement and try again, or if it hadn't died, I might have kept it and just found another option for the unsupported devices, but since I have to send it back anyway, I'm just going to get my refund and look for another answer.

4 of 5 Good for serial communication and looks nice next 3/30/2009
Tivo rules! from Raleigh, NC
I have been using this device in a serial communications interface for a few weeks. It is working well for me, I was concerned that any timing issues would cause problems with my software, but it seems to pass the bytes thru the wireless interface without any lag from buffering times.
I have not tried this in an intense application like a hard drive or video yet, but it works well for serial communications to the next room.
I paid about $60 for mine, and BUY.COM has gone even lower several times. They get the price down to a much more attractive offering that the full retail price.

2.7 of 5 BUYER BEWARE: Doesn't work with common USB items 3/7/2008
jvermill from Falls Church, VA
I received this today and immediately hooked it up. The installation is not straightforward, but I got it working. I have the unit 3 feet from the transmitter and the signal strength is "low", which I don't understand. But worse than that, I plugged in my USB headset and got an error message that the device doesn't recognize the USB headset and I should contact IOGEAR. I did and the response I got was:
"Unfortunately not all devices are supported with this device. Any device that requires isochronus endpoints will not work. The device needs to be able to buffer the transmission. We can be reached at 8669464327.
Thanks,
Service Support"
This wireless USB device is a great idea, but it just doesn't seem to work with common USB devices. Buyer beware! I plan on returning the device because to pay $100 for something that can't support the most basic USB devices is just unacceptable.
I'd suggest that if you're going to buy one of these, call the customer service number that they gave me, select the technical support option, and give them a list of every USB item you own to see if this device will work with them. If not, I'd suggest that you pass on this product and go to another.

4.3 of 5 Awsome Cable Replacement!!! 11/15/2007
Ash from Corona, CA
I just picked this hub and adapter up about 2 weeks ago and it has been awesome. When i first installed it took a few minutes for everything to connect, which was a little bothersome but not a big deal. I ran into an issue when i upgraded to Windows Vista and called there tech support (one of my best experiences with tech support to date) they told me that there was a new build on their website and i could download it. I did and man was the install and connection a breeze, they made HUGE improvements in the install and the software, No issues whatsoever and the units are working like CHAMPS! I have my Printer, scanner and an External HD across the room, my desk has never looked so open.
I highly recommend this unit even more after the software update. This is the second IOGEAR product i have ever purchased and I am very happy with quality and there support, if this was eBay they would definitely get an A++++++++++++++++++++++++.
