1 of 5 High hopes, but dismal execution Wednesday, July 09, 2008 Tom B. from Tucson, Arizona
I really had high hopes for this product. But it's not working at all. First problem is getting it paired. After several failed attempts, I call the IOGear tech guys. They suggest that the device needs to be reset. Only problem: to reset it, you have to plug it into a serial port. I bought this because my computers don't have a serial port. So I finally dig up an 8 year old computer that still works and sure enough, I do the resetting and at least it's paired. Unfortunately, once it's paired on one computer, you have to reset it if you want to use it on another. You can't just unpair like you do most devices. So back to the 8 year old computer to reset it. :-( Even when I do get it paired I've been unable to get the serial port to function. I've tested it with 2 different devices, both fail. Yet both do work with the 8 year old computer just fine. If I can return this, it's going back. Great idea, but it's not been refined enough to provide the service I need. I suggest you look elsewhere. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Not a true serial port Monday, July 07, 2008 Bummed out from The LBC
This item did work for simple serial port transfers but did not work when more complicated handshaking was needed. I even bought two to see if my equipment was faulty, but it wasn't. I dug deep into the matter and it was the converter not doing its part. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Did not work for my application Tuesday, April 01, 2008 A Customer from Grand Rapids, Michigan
Tried using it with my STB receiver and was unable to get it to work at all. Tried all configurations but a no go for me. Might be software or hardware problem but who knows? Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Bricked while still setting up Wednesday, December 05, 2007 A Customer from San Diego, CA
Took several times to pair with each of my phone and laptop. Once I got it up and running, the attached GPS data would come through sporadically, then stop and require a reboot of the bluetooth dongle. After a few iterations, the firmware seems to have crashed and now won't boot. Can't even get to the configuration screen. It appears that the power jack is loose... I'm guessing that the loose power dropped out during a critical moment and screwed up whatever on board storage medium is used for configuration storage. Was this review helpful?
