5 of 5 DX7440 Great Point & Click, Good Zoom, & Manual co Friday, November 25, 2005 keithdtaylor from Mountain View CA
I bought the DX7440 after comparing to the Canon A520. My parameters were 1) at least 4Megapixel; at least 4X optical Zoom
at least a 2" LCD; ~$200. On top of this, the Easyshare cameras have lens adapters to allow Telephoto and/or Wide Angle lenses to be added for ~$50 each.
I have been very pleasantly surprised in the User friendliness of the Camera and the photo quality - IN FACT, my wife, who refuses to go digital, thought it was a regular 35MM given the shutter speed, the noise it makes when you snap a picture - and when I took the SD card out, dropped it in an envelope and got my pix back at the same time as she did, well I MAY have her convinced to switch!
It was about $40 more than the Canon A520 but I feel the features and ease of use make this more than acceptable Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy Share DX 7440 Is Great Tuesday, November 01, 2005 charnels from Penn Yan, New York
Have used my DX 7440 for about three months and find it to be an outstanding value. Takes great pictures, easy to use, has a large view finder and is all that I need. Have made several enlargements and find that the 4.0 mega pixel images are just fine. Would buy another one in a minute. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Point-n-shoot heaven! Thursday, June 09, 2005 mitchedo from Bountiful, UT
All the review sites consistently laud the wonderful Canon A-series. I have an A70; my sister has an A80, and my other sister has an A85. We bought the Kodak DX7440 for my parents for its ease of use and for the big 2.2" display. Compared to the Canon A series, the Kodak DX7440 consistenly takes better-exposed, better-focused shots, and is quicker about it. Many of my shots from the Canon are blurry and poorly exposed. All digital cameras have shutter lag, including the Canons. The Kodak shutter lag is almost nonexistent, comparable to a 35mm point-n-shoot camera. The Canon cameras are MUCH slower to trip the shutter. Reviewers seem to be swayed by the Canon's full-manual features, but I have found the manual features buried too deeply in the menu system to be of use, including the manual focus. The Canons consistently overexpose shots, especially flash shots. The flash on the Kodak is wonderful, including using it for macro closeups. Redeye is also MUCH less with the Kodak compared to the Canon. You cannot use the Canon's flash for macro shots. The Kodak almost always takes beautifully-exposed, well-focused shots, even when the exposure would be difficult to set, like with backlit subjects or sunsets. Critics also pan the Kodak's lack of manual white balance adjustment. Well, I've used the Canon's manual white balance adjustment and the Kodak's automatic white balance far exceeds the Canon's manual OR auto settings. In short, this is a wonderful camera with a BIG 2.2" display on the back. The Canons have a puny 1.6" or 1.8" display. The only drawback is the proprietary battery, but an Efilm spare is only $20, and the camera comes with a charger. BUY THIS CAMERA! If you want manual features, step up a pro model, where you might actually be able to USE the manual features. Was this review helpful?
