Go beyond everyday computing with the Intel® Pentium® dual-core desktop processor. An increasing number of software applications are now designed for dual-core processors enabling the user to be more creative and productive in the home or the office. The need for security and virus protection often means running more than one application at a time and the Pentium dual-core processor has the power to run them simultaneously.

Based on a new energy-efficient microarchitecture, the Pentium dual-core desktop processor delivers superior energy-efficient dual-core performance.

Intel® Smart Memory Access

  • Optimizes the use of the data bandwidth from the memory subsystem to accelerate out-of-order execution. A newly designed prediction mechanism reduces the time in-flight instructions have to wait for data. New pre-fetch algorithms move data from system memory into fast L2 cache in advance of execution. These functions keep the pipeline full, improving instruction throughput and performance. Intel® Advanced Smart Cache
  • The shared L2 cache is dynamically allocated to each processor core, based on workload. This efficient, dual-core optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from the fast L2 cache, significantly reducing latency to frequently used data and improving performance.

    Intel® Advanced Media Boost

  • Digital Accelerates the execution of Streaming SIMD Extension (SSE) instructions to significantly improve the performance on a broad range of applications, including video, audio, image and photo processing, multimedia, encryption, financial, engineering, and scientific applications. The 128-bit SSE instructions are now issued at a throughput rate of one per clock cycle, effectively doubling execution speed on a per clock basis over previous generation processors.

    Intel® 64 Architecture

  • An enhancement to Intel® 32-bit architecture that allows the processor to access larger amounts of memory. With appropriate 64-bit supporting hardware and software, platforms based on an Intel processor supporting Intel® 64 Architecture enable the use of extended virtual and physical memory.

    Execute Disable Bit

  • Provides enhanced virus protection when deployed with a supported operating system. The Execute Disable Bit marks memory as executable or non-executable, allowing the processor to raise an error to the operating system. If malicious code attempts to run in non-executable memory, the malicious code is prevented from infecting the system.

    Intel Designed Thermal Solution

  • Includes a 4-pin connector for fan speed control to help minimize the acoustic noise levels generated from running the fan at higher speeds for thermal performance3. Fan speed control technology is based on actual CPU temperature and power usage.

    5 of 5 WHS Processor Wednesday, March 25, 2009
    A Customer from houston,tx

I installed it in my WHS and it runs great. I have not taxed it yet with intensive applications, but in the daily run it performs all actions without any problems and is not a big power user or heat producer.

5 of 5 Good price point Monday, November 03, 2008
    A Customer from Houston Texas
This was a good price point for an overall good processor for the price. This will still conserve power and not be the bottleneck on most systems.

    5 of 5 Perfect Processor Saturday, March 01, 2008
A Customer from Fresh Meadows, NY
I used this in an Abit motherboard. No problems. Great computer for my wife. Buy.com shipped very fast. I had it in about 3-4 days. Have not tried to overclock as of yet.

    5 of 5 great VALUE!! Monday, January 07, 2008
    Geoff from Eden prairie, MN
I'm a former AMD user, and I just feel bad for them now - because Intel has beaten them bad in this round. I bought only AMD CPU's because they provided the best performance per dollar. But now Intel MB's seem to by quite competitive, and this little e2180 is smoking fast. I notched up the FSB to 250 (from 200) and let my gigabyte P35-DS3L MB do its own overclocking (which seems to vary the clock multiplier between 6-10 plus it further increases the FSB) and the CPU reaches over 3GHz with granite stability (I've had one crash BSOD because my memory couldn't keep up - so I had to drop its ratio to the lowest). VISTA reports 5.8 for the CPU, and DivX cranks through about twice as fast as my 2.4GHz oc'd Opteron 165. I was stunned (picked up this e2180 for 1/4 the price of that opty - and I thought that price was a steal last year then :). One last thing, my temps are great: cores 27C idle - 45C max loading stress test (I got a $5 heat pipe cooler on, another great deal). Very happy!

5 of 5 Great CPU, perfect overclocker Monday, December 31, 2007
    tk_maxrabbit from Franklin, PA
This thing is a good and inexpensive CPU in the first place; but it can't be beat when it's pretty much the best overclocker out there. Mine is a stable 3 Ghz already, and I really could go higher!
