Annotation: The author of IMPERIAL HUBRIS is a senior officer with the CIA, and the book had to be submitted to the company for vetting prior to publication. Surprisingly to many, the CIA approved the manuscript, with the proviso that the author not use his real name, even though his identity is known. IMPERIAL HUBRIS is a highly critical assessment of the intelligence community and of the war on terror waged in the Clinton and Bush years. The author, who was chief of the Osama bin Laden station under President Clinton, is faults the two administrations for not responding to the terror threat and, when responding, for not using with the full force necessary. He takes shots at Clinton, Bush, the FBI, and his own CIA, including George Tenet, calling for a reevaluation of the terror threat and a major shakeup of the intelligence community--beginning with a more honest assessment of bin Laden's standing in the eyes of his own people, and of America's in the eyes of the world. The proper response to terror, in his view, should be a determined and strong one--and he is certain that al Qaeda will launch a major attack against the United States. IMPERIAL HUBRIS is a career professional's view in the form of a wake-up call to America.
