| | | The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
We've also included a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives -- or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. And you can get to your files from anywhere in the world through the Internet.
The Access Point built into the Router uses a dual-band version of the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signals travel farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.
With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G, -A, and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds much faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.
Since the Router can operate in both the 2.4 and 5 gigahertz radio bands at the same time, it effectively doubles your available wireless bandwidth. For instance, you could set up your network to handle video streaming on one radio band, and use the other band for simultaneous data transfers -- avoiding any interference or collisions that would degrade the video performance.
To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
The incredible speed of Wireless-N and gigabit wired networking is ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Storage Link Router at the center of your home or office network, you can easily add storage, share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at amazing speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!

1 of 5 Run to D-Link!!! Monday, February 23, 2009 Gerry H. from Yorktown Heights, NY
This product is terrible. I must have installed it six different times. The connection drops for no reason and the signal ten feet away is weak. I upgraded the firmware a few times with the help of Product Support (poor). They give you dozens of reasons why it probably does not work (must be "interferrence" - whatever that means). I expected more from Cisco. At the end, they wanted to keep on troubleshooting but the only thing I wanted to shoot was this miserable piece of junk. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Fast but Range is a bit lacking Friday, January 02, 2009 Sam from Perkins, Oklahoma
I replaced a Linksys 54G router with the WRT600N and am pleased with speed, however the range is no better than the 54G. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 WRT600N-RB Tuesday, December 30, 2008 Jerry Nembhard from Miami, Florida
I am very happy with this router. Linksys did a great job with this model. No problems with the installation. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fast and Versatile Wednesday, November 19, 2008 Miamibanker from Miami, Florida
The gigabit network switch really sped up the network connections to my Calvary network drive. No it operates like a USB connected drive. I have not tried the USB connection on the WRT600N as of yet. The wireless connections are very stable. Setup was easy using the Wizard software. Being familiar with Linksys router setup, I could have done the setup work without the wizard but used it to make sure that I didn't forget addressing any of the needed settings. The only negatives so far after two weeks of use is that the router is pretty warm to the touch and the wireless range is disappointing. The latter is why I rated performance a 4. The router is well worth the refurbished price but I wouldn't spend the money to buy it new. There are other routers that are a better value. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Just as good as new retail Saturday, October 18, 2008 heybob from Rockford, MI
If you are worried that you don't get a nice unit, don't be. I would say it's hard to tell the diff from new retail. It had the latest firmware and worked perfectly. So whats different? for the 60% off the price of new, you don't get the same box a new retail unit comes it. It comes in a plain white box that makes it clear this is not a new retail unit. Second, the warranty is less, and oddly enough, the nice little stand that makes these stand upright was not there. I don't know if it should be or not, but mine didn't have it. But a new unit is well over $300 and I paid just over $100 so the trade offs are well worth it. If you are looking to get one, consider the refurb for significant savings! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Linksys WRT600N Saturday, October 18, 2008 g4theweb from New Rochell, NY
Situation: Internet Modem was tucked away by cablevision techs in a small room in my basement. My bedroom is 4 stories up, so imagine that there is 4 flights between router and my computer. I did have to buy an 'N' adapter (usb)for my laptop to go along with this 'N' Router. This router's signal made it's way through 4 floors and I got that signal to connect me consistently every day, and it's pretty darn fast. My sirius stiletto also connects to this router too, and so it's very powerful. Price is pretty darn good too! One recommendation: pay Linksys $9.99 to take control of your computer and do the configuring from their end. Trust me it's worth it! Was this review helpful?

I really like the dual wireless this router has. I installed the dd-wrt firmware and runs way better than with the custom firmware. Was this review helpful?
