That's what makes him so good. But, unlike his other film and the lasting effect of Office Space and its cast of characters, Idiocracy won't be so loved and memorable. It's a good film for the time that it is running, but after the movie is over, it is not so endearing. Judge has a gift for delivering brutal satire in the trappings of low comedy and for making heroes out of ordinary people whose humanity makes them suspect in a world where every inch of space, including mental, is mediated..."Idiocracy" is Judge's pitch-black, bleakly hilarious vision of an American future so bespoiled by rapacious corporations and so dumbed-down by junk culture that the president of the United States is a three-time "Smackdown!" champion and former super porn-star...The plot, naturally, is silly and not exactly bound by logic. The thought of the U.S. being run and populated by morons and lugheads 500 years from now doesn't seem that far off given our current circumstances, which is why Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" is absolutely a satire for its time. What Judge is less sure of here than in his previous, perfectly pitched live-action comedy "Office Space," is how to build a complete movie around his key ideas...Judge is terrific on the movie's big strokes, and its needling of how truly bad things can get when dumb folks have power, but his script and direction struggle with the details and individual scenes tend to fall considerably short of their comic potential. - Robert Koehler
