Honestly, I ordered this product based on the looks and the perceived build quality. The actual build quality was less than expected. The door is kind of flimsy and I had trouble getting the drive to seat a couple of times. One feature that is lacking is power management. If you keep the drive connected all of the time (like me) the drive spins constantly and never sleeps. I was not able to hot swap drives, but that is not a big deal to me. One of my hard drives became corrupted but I don't know whether to blame that on the enclosure or the drive. One other nit pick: the status LED is recessed so that it is not visible if looking at it from an angle.
On the plus side, eSATA is fast and the enclosure looks great sitting on my desk.
Overall, a decent enclosure, but I was expecting more for the price. Was this review helpful?  
3 of 5 ESATA no go for Intel 965 board Thursday, July 10, 2008

I specifically got this for the ESATA part, mainly to use with my Gigabyte 965P Intel board. Well the hot-swappable part doesn't work at all. I can get it to work if I turn the computer off, turn on the drive, and reboot. But this defeats almost all the purpose of ESATA. The USB part works fine. The reason I know this is the Intel SATA controllers is the fact my Nvidia based motherboard SATA works perfectly fine in ESATA mode.
I do like how easy it is to put drives in the case. So that is good. Was this review helpful?
