4 of 5 Functional. Beauty. Beast. Sunday, August 31, 2008 Arnold U from Ontario, CA
I was looking for a solution to backup my almost 3 TB+ files (39,000 photos, 30+ hours of raw DV movies, 8,000+ music/podcast collection and graphic design work files), yet flexible enough for either grow or speed. This icy dock solves my problems both ways. eSATA speed are fast and I can even do any RAID with my 4 port eSATA card for even greater speed for video editing. I am planning to purchase additional trays so I can instantly swap HD depending on my need and also for my off-site backup solution.
The only downside with this product was that the first one that I bought, the power supply fan was loud. Loud enough that I can still hear it when listening to my music or podcast. I chatted with icy dock and complained. They told me that they have fixed the problems. I exchanged it and the new one is 75% quieter. Also, I secured this drive with a kensington lock and it was a tight fit. The power switch is really close to the slot.
Other than those.... its a dream... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Icy Dock Hard Drive Enclosure worth the Investment Sunday, May 11, 2008 A Customer from Centreville, VA
This hard drive enclosure was definitely worth the investment. I have an older Intel Pentium 4 HTPC system that I wanted to upgrade and this was the perfect addition. Although it isn't the quietest of enclosures, it gave me the connectivity I needed with an unbeatable price ($232 before a $100 mail in rebate). It would have been nice to have an ESATA bus so that I would only have to connect one cable, but I was able to find a good deal on a 4 port PCI ESATA card that did the trick. Most of the other multi-hard drive enclosures out there are pretty expensive, so if you can find a price as good as this one, don't pass it up. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great device Thursday, April 03, 2008 vb from ny,ny
this is a great little device
purchased with the addonics esata 4 port card
(Addonics 4-Port External Serial ATA II RAID Controller - - 300MBps per Port - 4 x 7-pin eSATA Serial ATA/300 - External SATA External - ADS3GX4R5-E) and now have a great raid 1 setup on my mac
one note... it is a bit loud, but not terrible... build construction is great. drives are easy to install... just needed to download silicon images driver for single sata port to drive config... other than that its a great device. also bought right now 2 750 gb drives in raid 1 on my mac.... need to get 2 more for the full 1.5TB raid 1! I am def more concerned with data preservation than speed. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great external storage solution Monday, March 19, 2007 A Customer from Austin, TX
Bought this for a Quad G5 editing bay and a Sonnet 4-port eSATA 3GB/s E4P PCI-express card. Works great with AVID and 500gb Seagate drives.. The fan's a little loud, otherwise perfect. Great value! Stays cool.

5 of 5 Icy Dock eSATA Multi-HD Enclosure Performs! Monday, March 05, 2007 John from Scottsdale, Arizona
Clearly designed to mate with a Mac, I nonetheless found this enclosure a handsome addition to my PC. Needing a way to expand and archive video files, I sought a removable eSATA HD enclosure that I could use with confidence. The Icy Dock MB561 satisfies completely.
A bit expensive, but I was pleased to find (it was not clear to me when I ordered it) that the kit included four eSATA cables and two adapters for installation in my computer. The fit and finish are great, the interface with the hard drives flawless. It was a breeze to set up and get working! I find the fan noise a bit high, but otherwise it's a really nice quality package. Was this review helpful?
