    5 of 5 Roomba 510...keeps floor clean!!! Thursday, January 08, 2009
    A Customer from Germantown, MD
I've had the 510 for a couple of weeks now and I think it is a real value to our house. It keeps the floor clean and it is really a tough little vacuum sweeper. I like it for the wood floors and for the throw rugs that don't have tassels. The only down side of this item is that it misses some of the bigger pieces of dirt on the floor, but overall it is a great addition to the house. The house actually feels more healthy to me since I've been running it. I say this because the first few times after it was done doing its work I went to clean out the bin and it was full of dirt and the little particulates area was stuffed full. This has gotten less and less over time and we all breath much better since we've implemented the 510 in the house.

    4 of 5 Wish I waited Thursday, January 01, 2009
    Jim from Bridgewater MA
I got my roomba before Christmas and used it immediately. Its incredible how it works. It doesn't fall down the stairs (but also can't clean the stairs) and is fun to watch. If you have pets you will need to clean it out alot (easy to do). I wish I waited to buy it though because i now can get the better models with more options for a cheaper price. I am not going to kick myself to hard because you can say that about just about everything. This does not replace a regular vacuum but is a very good tidy keeper. Overall I like it and my kids are willing to vacuum now so whats better than that.

We have 2 dogs and a cat and this Roomba does a great job of picking up hair. Fun to watch operate too. Only wish this model had a docking/charging station.

4 of 5 Life Made Easier Sunday, December 21, 2008
    Donna from Huntsville, Texas
I am very pleased with my Roomba. My home is approximately 2000 SF. Mostly wood flooring with one room carpet and tile in wet areas. The Roomba does a great job cleaning the various flooring types. I have some area rugs, of which cause a little trouble for the Roomba to approach, but if I leave it alone it will eventually do the job. I also need to move a few electrical cords before operating and perhaps a dining room chair or two but that is it! It does not replace the human being getting down to the "nitty gritty" corners, however; it certainly makes cleaning much easier. I just purchased my second one for a gift to my mother. She is up in age and is very happy, as she no longer has to manipulate a large vacuum cleaner any more other than to do her deep cleaning. In my opinion this was money well spent.

1 of 5 Cool Toy, Surface Cleans, Short Life. Tuesday, December 16, 2008
    A Customer from Seattle, Washington
I have been through 2 units and now both are dead. No overuse. Followed maintenance instructions. But between questionable electronics and stripped plastic internal gears they seem to be made to die so you need to buy the "newest" version too soon after you get committed to this type of sweeping. I agree they are remarkable to watch and are somewhat efficient at surface "sweeping" when first used. I loved mine. But their short lives are a real minus. I would not recommend buying one unless they offered a 2 - 3 year warranty with swap out replacement guaranteed (not unreasonable at this price). I had lenghty battles with iRobot honoring their short warranty.

5 of 5 I'm happy with my little roomba (I call it RoomBot Wednesday, December 10, 2008
    AndreaSeattle from Seattle, WA
I bought Roomba when Buy.com was having a sale. It was only $110 and has been a great value. It seems to get around most furniture and obstacles fairly well, but it has a lot of trouble with a couple of stools I have with thin wire legs, so I definitely do move furniture. The fact that it cleans under the bed (an area that had been harboring a ton of dust) is reason enough to buy Roomba. It has been great to leave for work in the morning, run Roomba, and always find that it has done a great job.

    4 of 5 Love it Tuesday, December 09, 2008
    Chris from Yulee, FL
This little guy is a great buy! I bought this for my GF and she absolutely loves it. She has two dogs that shed all the time. So all she has to do is bring out the Roomba and hit clean and it does a very thorough job of vacuuming and picking up dog hair and whatever else may be hiding in the carpet. Its much quieter then a regular vacuum but still hard to hear a tv over it. Has only gotten stuck once under the couch but it does its best to try and get out of its situation. If it can not figure a way to unstick itself then it shuts itself off so it does not wear your battery down. It transitions from carpet to hard floor with ease! Bought this at a price of 179.99 free ship. Best deal I have seen around for this model. At that price it was not worth it to me to jump to the models that have schedule and can find its way to the charger. Figured we are already being lazy by having a robot vacuum for us we can at least put it on its charger. By the way the dogs love it and I find myself turning it on and just watching it do its thing. I guess I'm easily entertained! The roomba also leave nice vacuum lines which my GF loves, she says the lines alone just make her feel the whole house is clean. Worth the buy, you will not regret it!

    5 of 5 I LOVE my roombas! Monday, December 08, 2008
    Corina from Akron, Ohio
This is the 4th Roomba I have purchased, and I can tell you that my sanity has been restored as a result of my pretty much daily use of these wonderful robots. I had tried a Discovery model, and it was fairly worthless, but the 500 series are FABULOUS! I even got my mom one of the four, and although she generally would not give the time of day to the notion that a robot could help her clean, she loves her Roomba too. I got it for her because she has severe rotator cuff damage and has a lot of pain when she vacuums, and she's a clean freak with lots of hard wood floors, and this Roomba was perfect for her. I have tile floor and carpet in my home, and I have both this model and the 530 (2 of those). I have a dog and two cats, two teenage daughters with long hair. The dog hair in my kitchen alone was reason enough to pay FULL PRICE ($379.00), and then I got another one for my living room/family room. The 500 series does a great job of hard floors, and generally handles throw rugs quite well. Be aware that black outlines on your throw rugs can make the Roomba believe it's on a "cliff" and the little robot won't go on those rugs (however, you can get the rugs very clean by running the Roomba on the rug - it will vacuum the whole rug and only the rug, because of its "cliff sensors"). If you have mostly carpet, these Roombas are great for surface cleaning and keeping things neat in between your regular weekly vacuuming with your normal vacuum, but they won't replace your regular vacuum. If you have mostly hard floors, you may well be able to replace your clunky, heavy upright! This particular model came with a better side brush (more sturdy, although not indestructible - plan on quarterly replacements, depending on how often you use yours), and a better rotating brush. I cannot speak highly enough of these robots. I guarantee anyone on your Christmas list would LOVE this as a gift. And irobot Customer Service is very good. I have had to replace the brush assembly once in each of my 530s, and at no cost to me. My mother has had no problems at all with her 510, other than it's about time for a battery replacement. Depending on how well you maintain your machine and how often you use it, you can figure on replacing the battery every 1 to 2 years. You can prolong the life of your battery by cleaning the brushes frequently, as the more hair that winds around the ends of the brushes, the more you drain the battery and work the motor. Also, check out the irobot website for tips on how to reset your battery to prolong its life. Buy.com is always quick on shipping and they generally have problem-free returns or exchanges. I highly recommend the purchase of your Roomba from Buy.com.

    3 of 5 Failed After 2 Days Tuesday, December 02, 2008
    A Customer from Friendswood, Texas
The unit we received was charged overnight and used the next day. Operationally it worked as advertised. Unfortunately the 510 is not one of the models that have an automatic docking station feature, so when it dies you have to find it. We used it the next day with the same successful results. On the 3rd day, it stopped prematurely and when we went to charge it, there was a burning smell coming from the vacuum. Also the light indication for charging wasn't working. We called iRobot and they're in the process of sending us a replacement free of charge and pre-paid postage to send the old unit back. Hopefully this failure was just a fluke. iRobot seems sincere in making the situation right and when it does work, it is a good unit.

4 of 5 Reasonable Surface Cleaner Monday, November 17, 2008
    Seeolddan from Monroe, Ohio
I have had my unit for about 9 months. It does a reasonable job of cleaning my rooms with minimal problems. It is not a deep cleaner. All in all it is a viable unit and is well worth it's cost. When it has a problem, it simply notifies you that something is wrong with an "uhhh ohhh" tone and stops. WARNING: The worst thing about this unit is that it is sooo entertaining, you tend to watch it. PROS: Cleans under beds. Always cleans entire target area. Runs a long time on one charge. Works around most objects. (you will find some minor rearrangements of furniture will eliminate most problems. If you don't have cats (or a lot of hair on the floor) the run time will be really long. CONS: Cat Owners: (We have two) Cat hair gathers in the unit and reduces "time between emptying/cleaning brushes". When you empty the unit, you should clean your brushes. (the brushes are easily removable). Important - Clean the ends too. You may have to remove and "end table" or other items that might create a empty area that "exactly" fits the roomba. Make the empty area 1" larger or smaller than the roomba and you will be fine. Things that are "exactly" the same height of the unit will cause the unit to get wedged going under it. Example, we recline our recliners to prevent the rumba from hanging. It has no trouble cleaning under the unit. Shoestrings, Cords, Rubber Bands - You will need to make sure there are NO shoe strings. It has minimal tolerance for regular power cords and extension cords. It has NO tolerance for AC adapter cables or rubber bands. I just cleaned the family room, kitchen, breakfast area and mudd room with two stops. I had a full bin on the first stop. Both were cat hair induced.
