I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 17" notebook, loaded, which tended to get pretty hot when sitting on my lap. I looked at the fan/powered coolers...they were all junk and noisy and cumbersome to use if tyring to use it on your lap. This i-xoft really did the trick. I can keep it on my lap for hours and it only gets warm to my legs, still comfortable. Because of the corrugated-like surface, air still circulates under the laptop. I don't understand how it works, but there is a crystal(like) liquid material inside that melts when heated and dissapates the heat, then gels when cooled. It works as advertised. It's a little expensive, but worth it if this is what you were looking for.
