I LOVE LUCY debuted on CBS in 1951 and quickly set a new standard for situation comedy with its well-crafted plotlines, live tapings, multiple camera angles, and one of the finest ensemble casts in television history. Centered on the domestic life of zany redhead Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) and her Cuban-born husband Ricky (Lucy's real-life spouse Desi Arnaz), the series also broke cultural ground by featuring an interracial marriage and a female lead who was less than the perfect housewife. Indeed, it was Lucy's never-ending quest to muscle in on her husband's show-business career--often with the help of meddlesome next-door neighbors Fred (William Frawley) and Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance)--that provided the show its main comedic thrust and continues to lend it a timelessly classic appeal. This collection presents all nine seasons (194 episodes) of this groundbreaking series, including the "lost" pilot and I LOVE LUCY: THE MOVIE.

For anyone who is an I Love Lucy fan, this complete series is a must. I began purchasing the first season back when they were only selling 4 episodes at a time and quickly stopped after I realized just how much it was going to cost me. Since then, I've been waiting for a good deal and this is definately it. The restoration of each episode is great and the bonuses on each disc help give some insight to a lost era. $154.00 might seem a little much but if you are a true fan and truely enjoy watching classic comedy, this set is worth every penny. I'm 31 and my son is 13 and we both very much enjoy watching Lucy and the gang - she truely transcends any and all generations :) Was this review helpful?

Oh my goodness, words are failing me right now to describe how much I love this boxed set. It's an absolute MUST for any diehard Lucy fan! The packaging is incredible and beautiful, very sturdy and feels as if my discs will be protected for years to come.
The extras alone, both those at the end of each disc and the stand-alone Bonus disc, are well worth the cost of this set (which is still lower than any I've found online with shipping/tax). Being able to see clips from the original Emmy Awards brought tears to my eyes, as did the clip of the first time that Lucy and Desi appeared on television together.
I highly recommend this box set to anyone who loves a classic and who considers themselves to be a true Lucy fan. Your collection isn't complete without it! Was this review helpful?
