Building on the strength of their debut, as well as the general insurgence of Southern hip-hop, Big Tymers' latest release I GOT THAT WORK is typical of the label's influential style. | | As usual, the emphasis is on faster BPMs, minor-key synthesizer stabs, and syncopated snares. However, there are some interesting production edges here, in addition to the rather formulaic New Orleans style; for instance, heavy metal guitar samples show a definite classic rock influence, while "# 1 Stunna" even has some Spanish guitar riffs. Despite its unusual, eccentric production touches, the lyrical concerns are largely predictable--the subject matter is for the most part single-minded in its concern for materialism, cars, and women. | Producer: Mannie Fresh | Engineer: Mannie Fresh; Ray Seay | Musical Guests | | Hot Boys | | Lil Wayne | | Juvenile | | B.G. | | Lovely | | Atrice | | Turk | | Unplugged | | LAC |

| | Professional Reviews | | Spin (7/00, p.155) - 7 out of 10 - "...Another 'ballerifc' effort....[Mannie] Fresh creates a zanily incongruous sound-world where electro B-lines bounce beneath classical melodies played on G-funk synths, and house vamps and techno stabs chitter alongside cocaine-crisp guitar fills..."The Source (7/00, pp.205-6) - 3.5 mics out of 5 - "...[Mannie Fresh's] nimble and ingenious talents on the boards make [the album] an overall success....[his] talents lie on making head-bangin' funk music....the infectious rhythms will make you wanna drip yourself in platinum pieces and head Uptown..." |
