Rocking, retro, with an unimpeachable pop sensibility, it's hard to see how anyone could fail to be charmed by Andrew W.K.'s major label debut, which contains more rock anthems than a brace of Oasis albums and at a decidedly higher octane. "Party Til You Puke" has elements of cookie monster-type thrash metal, while "Got To Do It" conjures memories of dear, dead Joey Ramone, but mostly I GET WET is full of the kind of teen-friendly hard rock that'll get you into trouble with your parents and have the neighbors banging on the walls.

Artist Overview
As rock & roll's visionary party animal, Andrew W.K. elevated headbanging to the level of the sublime with tracks such as "Party 'til You Puke" and "Party Hard." W.K. (Wilkes-Krier) had been recording for years prior to his breakthrough full-length, 2001's I GET WET. Brimming with the most basic and infectious elements of heavy metal, punk, and pop, and equipped with some of the most giddily stupid lyrics imaginable, the album posited W.K. as either the idiot savant of hard rock or a wry conceptualist offering up brilliantly tongue-in-cheek anthems. Given W.K.'s association with avant-garde acts such as Sightings, Wolf Eyes, and To Live and Shave in L.A., the reality is probably closer to the latter. The 2006 release THE WOLF found W.K. moving in a slightly more mature yet no less bombastic direction.

4 of 5 I Get Wet...and I lose weight Tuesday, July 26, 2005
morphoeugenia from Glendale, AZ

I think there is no possible way to listen to this record without turning up the volume above and beyond your sound system's means. It's great that way- very energetic. Something to clean your house to, drink heavily to or excercise to. I think Andrew W.K. is exceptionally original, but he's definitely an acquired taste. I've read that he's too simplistic or even dumbed down. I don't agree, if you want to lift your spirits then I Get Wet is for you.

What makes 'I Get Wet' a masterpiece? Three things. ONE. The riffs. You know the kind of riffs I'm talking about: the kind that insist you play air guitar. The kind that are just complex enough to be fresh and inventive, yet simple enough to jump into your head and stay there, permanently. 'Party Hard', 'I Get Wet', 'Ready To Die', 'Got To Do It'...EVERY SINGLE SONG on this album has a great riff. Also, crucially, every riff sounds new. Yes, Andrew WK is about rock 'n' roll on it's simplest level, but he is no plagiarist. While The Strokes or The Hives play riffs that sound like a hundred others you've heard, 'I Get Wet' is stuffed with new meat...and it's delicious. TWO. The production. Garage rock may be fashionable again, but Andrew WK has not used this as an excuse to make an album that...well, sounds like it was made in a garage. The sound of 'I Get Wet' is crisp, crystal clear, and absolutely ENORMOUS. Without a doubt, this is the BIGGEST rock album I have ever heard. Never has an album insisted so strongly that I turn my walkman up to maximum volume. The guitars layer on top of one another, seemingly in their hundreds, to create a gigantic wall of sound. Between these layers, piano and synthesisers are added, like the creamy coating between blocks of sponge in a gorgeous cake. Yes, it is retro...but nothing and no one has ever sounded quite like this. No album's production has ever sounded as staggeringly epic as 'I Get Wet'. Andrew WK has entered the old school, tied up and gagged all the teachers, blared his album from all the speakers, and incited a total riot in every damn classroom. THREE. What makes this album so different, if so much of it is about what has been done before? Answer? Three letters: A.W.K. THE MAN MEANS IT. Andrew WK loves music like he loves life itself. And he loves life itself A LOT. And he wants to let the whole world know it. He is unfashionable. He has nothing new to say. He is old school. His white t-shirt (I assume he only possesses one!) is very, very dirty. He has made what may well be the greatest rock 'n' roll album in music history. WOW.

5 of 5 A.W.K. : The Genius of Loving Life & Rock Wednesday, June 19, 2002
iamjacksbestfriend from Stockholm, Sweden
'I Get Wet' is a musical revelation to me. Before discovering Andrew WK, I thought that legendary bands like AC/DC, Motörhead and KISS were the ultimate in unadulterated, full throttle, visceral, bottom line ROCK 'N' ROLL. But, in the space of 12 sky shattering tracks, Andrew WK has just raised the bar, completely trashing the contemporary rock scene (now overrun with retro grunge plagiarists like Staind, Creed and Nickelback), and even surpassing the bands who have spent decades doing what they do better than anyone else. Andrew WK is more exciting than AC/DC. More in-your-face than Motörhead. More anthemic than KISS. He has taken rock, at its most fundamental level, into a new and higher place of ecstatic, take-on-the-world celebration. What makes 'I Get Wet' a masterpiece? Three things. ONE. The riffs. Damn right, too...every true rock fan (and every true rock band) knows that great riffs are at the heart of all great rock 'n' roll music. AC/DC built their entire, three decade career almost entirely on great riffs, and great riffs alone. When the 90's came along, and Nirvana killed Mötley Crüe, the simple joy of a great riff became unfashionable. Rock stopped going up, into ecstasy, and started back down, into melancholy...and great riffs are much happier being happy than they are being sad. So it has been ever since...there was no happy riffing during the grunge movement, or during the rap-metal movement that followed (which is not to say that those musical trends didn't have important sounds to be heard). In the present, where grunge is now shamelessly repeating itself, fantastic riffs STILL haven't gone back into fashion. So Andrew WK isn't fashionable. But so what? If you care whether the artists you listen to are fashionable or not, then you're a SELL-OUT. What REALLY matters is the music, and, through his riffs, A.W.K. HAS the music. You know the kind of riffs I'm talking about: the kind that insist you play air guitar. The kind that are just complex enough to be fresh and inventive, yet simple enough to jump into your head and stay there, permanently. The kind that you recognise instantly. The kind that make your life worth living. 'Party Hard', 'I Get Wet', 'Ready To Die', 'Got To Do It'...EVERY SINGLE SONG on this album has a great riff. One or two don't stand as strongly as the others ('She Is Beautiful' and 'I Love NYC' bring the simplicity a little too close to formula)...but overrall the quality is so high, and so constant, that the riffage just can't be denied. None of these songs hang around, either...most of them clock in around the three minute mark. These songs love you and leave you, and leave you hungry for more. This only makes you appreciate the guitar work even more. Also, crucially, every riff sounds new. Yes, Andrew WK is about rock 'n' roll on it's simplest level, but he is no plagiarist. While The Strokes or The Hives play riffs that sound like a hundred other riffs you've heard, 'I Get Wet' is stuffed with new meat...and it's delicious. Your bedroom is a stadium. The pavement outside the newsagents is a stadium. Never has an album insisted so strongly that I turn my walkman up to maximum volume. It just BEGS to be played really, really loudly, because it sounds loud even if you play it quietly. The guitars layer on top of one another, seemingly in their hundreds, to create a gigantic wall of sound. Between these layers, piano and synthesisers are added, like the creamy coating between blocks of sponge in a gorgeous cake. These gentler sounds have the beautiful effect of adding even more depth to the guitars...the result is so epic, it really has to be heard (on headphones) to be believed. And while, described in words, this formula does sound entirely typical of most 80's rock, with Andrew WK in the studio, it is not the same. Andrew WK is the X factor, the fuel, the soul, the life that breathes into every fantastic component of this album, and unites them all into a whole that far, far execedes the sum of what is, essentially, a lot of loud guitars. Simply put, Andrew WK has a sense of self-belief that, frankly, I have never experienced in any other artist. I say I have direct experience of this because it is entirely evident, just from listening to the album. THE MAN MEANS IT. When I started reading his interviews, and visiting his website, and hearing anecdotes from people who had met him in person, it only confirmed what was already obvious. Andrew WK loves music like he loves life itself. And he loves life itself A LOT. And he wants to let the whole world know it. And with the warm friendship he has with his fans, he does. And with his total committment to being the best he can be, he does. And on this album, he does. Andrew W.K. is FOR REAL. He is unfashionable. He has nothing new to say. He is old school. His white t-shirt (I assume he only possesses one!) is very, very dirty. He has made what may well be the greatest rock 'n' roll album in music history. WOW.

5 of 5 Andrew W.K. Wants To 'Party Hard' With You Friday, May 24, 2002
knapkemc from Cincinnati, Ohio
A newcomer to the rock and roll scene, Andrew W.K. has made his presence felt in a huge way. His new album I Get Wet is one of the best metal/hard rock albums to hit the airwaves in a long time. The feel good vibe of his songs is very reminisent of AC/DC, Van Halen, and Led Zeppelin. His music is best described as arena/stadium rock like sound that gets you listening after the first few seconds. He keeps your foot tapping, your body moving, and your head banging! His party anthems can get any party started the right way and is a perfect way to introduce people to AWK. Party Hard, the first single is the ultimate party song that gets the energy up. She Is Beautiful;, the second single is a hard rockin

Positive attitude and a good time with an overall sence of inculsion hard riff and good hooks. Great rock/party anthems.... i can't think of a reason why someone wouln'd want to have a copy of I Get Wet and all other music that Andrew has made.

4 of 5 Party Til You Puke, and Love It Monday, May 20, 2002
Jordan from Buffalo Grove, IL
This album isn't what you'd think. You hear a name such as Andrew W.K., and you think, "Oh great, another boy band.", but oh, how you are wrong. Andrew W.K is a fresh 80's style metal band that is just breaking out. Their CD, "I Get Wet", was released March 26, 2002 in the US. It was released earlier in the UK since the band played more shows there first. The band is headed by Andrew W.K. himself. Not only does he do lead vocals, but all the songs on the album were written by himself on a piano. He writes, sings, and PLAYS piano and keyboards on this album. He's

5 of 5 Party for your CD player Monday, May 20, 2002
nirod from Houston, TX
I'm addicted to this album, and I want everyone else to be too. I wish I could make it louder every time I listen to it, but my vloume doesn't go up any higher. For everyone that has been waiting for that change to happen that saves music, here it is. Put it in and push repeat. I found that no matter how many times I listen to it, I still want more. It makes me smile, and I just want to laugh and dance like a fool when it is on. There isn't one song I would skip through if given the chance. I've never felt that way about any cd before. I love all of the songs. After I listened to it for the first 3 days after I got it, I was going to take a break from it so I wouldn't get tired of the cd too soon, but I realized I didn't want to stop. If I had lost my hearing that night, I would have regretted not listening to this album as much as possible. I still haven't grown tired of it. Once you realize what a gift to all ears this cd is, be sure to spread the word and the smiles.

Andrew W.k's I get wet is great. It is all about having fun and never stopping. It gets you up and excited even if you don't want to be. As W.K says "We will never stop having continuing fun" that is definitely what his music is all about.

After listening to I GET WET, i was instantly addicted to the cd. With his uplifting, rock anthems like songs, they are short, quick to the point, and leave the listener wanting and needing more. With classic tracks as READY TO DIE, I LOVE NYC & the infamous PARTY HARD! we will always party hard, with andrew w.k.

5 of 5 Your damn arms are gonna fall off... Friday, May 17, 2002
Jabrone from springfield, mo
From thrashing them around so much! It is the happiest, headbanginest, funnest album i have heard in years, kind of a super-positive hyper-charged Ramones/Meatloaf hybrid, but better than that sounds. IF you like feeling good and being happy and ROCK AND F'N ROLL, then this is perfect...yes it is pop as hell, but that only means that there is no reason that everybody in the world shouldn't love Andrew W. K....don't stop living in the red, man...

5 of 5 AWK = FUN Friday, May 17, 2002
jen from florida
So you've seen the video and you're wondering if this guys a joke right? Well, thats what i thought. But everytime Party Hard came on i would turn it up and just crack up at this man on my TV kicking and flailing his arms around with a huge Party Hard neon sign behind him. It was great. After i got the Cd, it was a little hard to get used to how huge it was. There are multiple vocals, multiple guitars, multiple chorus on each song - just plain big. But i kept listening, and once i let down my guard and just had fun, i loved it. This guy isnt a joke. Infact, the more and more i learned about him, the more i respected him and his music. He's a classically trained pianist, he can and has played guitars, bass and drums. And his live show is the best i've ever seen. No joke. Yeah, i know. The lyrics arent dark, theyre not about how mom and dad broke up, theyre not about how you hate the kids at school. If you want dark or cerebral, you know where to go - and thats fine. But there comes a time when you just need to let loose and have some fun dammit! And when that time comes, the place to go is Andrew WK's I Get Wet.

mitzela from Miami, Florida
Andrew WK. The new guy in town who is causing a roucus by being himself and not being afraid to tell people that its all about having fun. You never hear of perfomers writing music anymore for the love of it. AWK proves from the first track, to the last that he is about doing what he enjoys, playing music and PARTYING HARD! You will want to party to every song. Party Hard and She is beautiful are two of my favorites. Actually they are all great! So, listen, enjoy and feel what having fun to music sounds like!

5 of 5 An honest review of the best cd ever Thursday, May 16, 2002
VVhiteboyslim from Lynchburg, VA
Honestly, the first time I heard "Party Hard" I thought it was kind of cheesey and dumb, at leat for the first 20 seconds or so. But by the end of it my friend and I were jumping around his room. This album is by far the best music to come out in a long time. Every single song has more energy then any song I've ever heard before. And if any of you have only heard "Party Hard" tehn please get this album and listen to the whole thing. Listening to it all together just makes it a hundred times better. I urge everyone to go out right now and get this cd and then go look to find out when Andrew WK is playing near youi because you have to go see him in concert. I can't even describe how amazing it is.

5 of 5 Andrew W.K. is out of control! Thursday, May 16, 2002
Raddog from Flushing, NY
I Get Wet is quite possibly the greatest album released this year. Starting from track one you start a half hour of non-stop excitement. Somehow Andrew W.K. stored a mass of energy that could fuel a spaceship into a compact disc. The guitar riffs are heavy and the keyboards are heavenly harmonic. Every single track reinvents 80's metal with a heavier, faster touch. Andrew W.K. is a maniac, just look at the cover. I love it.

5 of 5 Music and More! Thursday, May 16, 2002
A Listener from Western PA
The AWK CD isn't quite like anything I've heard. From the first time I saw his video, I was intrigued. Andrew is more than just some music and a paycheck. He has a good message and that follows him from the stage to his real life behind the music. I dig the music. Give it a chance and see if you do.

5 of 5 Andrew W.K.: A Howitzer Cannon of Anthematic Power Thursday, May 16, 2002
strangeforce23 from Grand Rapids, Michigan
When I heard "I Get Wet" was coming out I almost actually did. Right in my pants. I was already a huge fan of his "Girls Own Juice" EP which took me ages to track down. I didn't even think many others had heard of him. I soon got word "I Get Wet" had exploded in England. I soon knew why. The music kept with the tradition of "Girls Own Juice", like a supercharged semi truck smashing anything in it's way in musical form. The best thing about "I Get Wet" and all AWK's music is how fraggin inspirational it is. Roar along with it in the shower and you are ready to charge head-long into your day. Play it when it's time to party brother...well I just hope you have understanding neighbors.

5 of 5 Andrew W. K. rocks hard!! Thursday, May 16, 2002
Steve_o_6 from Union Springs, New York
Andrew W.K.'s new CD I Get Wet rocks, and rocks hard. It is great happy metal. Even when he is singing about death and killing he still sings about it in a good way. It is a change for the better when all you hear about is bad, depressing things in new metal. PARTY HARD!!!!

4 of 5 Andrew W.K. saves rock as we know it! Thursday, May 16, 2002
A Listener from Los Angeles, CA
Not since the early '90s have I been so excited about a new artist as I am about Andrew W.K. Just hearing "Party Hard" amongst all the other songs on the radio makes you sit up and take notice. Whether you like what you hear or not, this is something NEW!

5 of 5 I want more AWK Thursday, May 16, 2002
Jeannette from Ypsilanti, Mi USA
This album is an eye opener for the world it takes you off of the hum drum beat that we are used to. The words are inspiring and very up lifting. Every time I listen to this album my mood lifts and I just want to start dancing. AWK put the truth back into music. The album from start to finish is about the truth and what we see and don't see in the society. AWK needs to bring out another album right away.

5 of 5 All Hail Andrew W.K. Thursday, May 16, 2002
Rofters from Glasgow, Scotland, UK
What can I say about this man, and this album, that’s not already been said? That Andrew W.K. is the saviour of rock music? Nah, Britain’s New Musical Express has already said that. It really is feel-good rock at its finest. When your feeling down it makes you happy. When you’re happy it shares in your happiness. When there’s nothing on TV it entertains until something decent comes on (though by that time you can’t turn it off!). I’m not going to say that it is one of the best albums ever, because that would not be true. What I will say about ‘I Get Wet’ is that there really is no bad track on it and it succeeds in doing it’s job immensely – that job being to bring high energy, enthusiastic (if a little cheesy) rock music to the masses. PARTY HARD MR. W.K. cos I am!!!! Rofters

5 of 5 Pump your fist, bang your head. Thursday, May 16, 2002
he who hath no flesh from Chicago, IL
This is simply the best mainstream album to be released in at least five years. Its not as if andrew is covering new ground here, all he's doing is writing one perfect pop song after another, and on top of everyyhing he does it all himself. Every song is about 90 tracks of andrew. What a breath of fresh air in this stifling climate of creed/pearl jam clones. Can't get enough of this one.

5 of 5 SMASHING! Thursday, May 16, 2002
maartenkrol from tolkamer, Holland
The fast and furious (but also happy) way in which Andrew and his band play their songs, is incredible. Especially 'She is Beautiful' is a great song, I think, due to some raging guitars. This CD is bursting with energy! I don't know how to explain Andrew's style, but it would something like party metal...!

5 of 5 ANDREW W.K. IS A GOD!!!! Wednesday, May 15, 2002
ashjw37 from nyc, ny
this album is phenomenal. if you have ever loved big, fun, exciting rock songs, you will no doubt appreciate i get wet, the amazing debut by Andrew WK. This album, to me, and i'm sure countless others, represents a musical force with the intention of crushing whiny, pretentious bands like puddle of mudd, staind, and creed. every song rocks unapolagetically hard. Andrew says his music is meant to be music to feel alive to, and he is right. i can think of few other albums where i can feel like the people singing are being honest in whatever emotion they sing about. this album is possibly the most energetic thing i've ever heard. if you ever feel like listening to an album that will make you feel alive, this is it.

Amanda WK from Toms River, NJ
For a head-banging, hardrock-slamming good time, pick up Andrew W.K.'s "I Get Wet". It's a solid mix of nu age and early 90s rock that makes you want to get up and do something, with fun-inspiring songs like "Got to Do It", "Fun Night", and its current single "Party Hard". A guaranteed win for fans of almost any musical taste.

5 of 5 Getting Wet Could Never Be More Fun Wednesday, May 15, 2002
Alex Metz from Bethlehem, PA USA
Two words. PARTY HARD!!! "I GET WET," by Andrew W.K. is one of the coolest, hardest, and most fun metal album ever. I personally haven't felt this good about a metal album since "Whoracle" by In Flames. Just like when I heard that alubm, when I heard A.W.K.'s, I was lost in this sonic intoxication of my mind and soul. I seriously could not believe what I was hearing. These speedy crunching guitar riffs, something that hasn't been heard since the late 70's punk invaison from bands like The Clash and the Ramones. And it's not just the guitar that is unique. Its the overall product that is so amazing. Adding fun and positive lyrics to a crunching sound topped off by classical piano, and the Mad-Man presence of Andrew himself. Overall, this album is a must buy. After I saw the "Party Hard" video, I went out and bought this album. It leaves you wanting more at the end, but you'll have something that is hard to find after listening to an album, a smile. "She is Beautiful," and "It's Time to Party," are my favorites.

5 of 5 I get Wet? You sure do Wednesday, May 15, 2002
nadia from canada
Okay, so this music is obviosly NOT for everyone. The hooks are great, the beats catchy, and the lyrics sipmle. Its an overall fist pounding head banging mosh pitting good time. It's simply loud dumb happy music. I get wet hasn't even left my cd player/diskman since i bought it. You simply can't get tired of it. It always brings you up, hypes you up and makes you smile. There are two downsides to this album: one most girls don't like it for some reason or another (myself excluded) and two its ONLY 35 minutes long! But hey its still great! PARTY HARD!!!!
