Alex Cross''s niece is found brutally murdered. Overcome with grief, Alex vows to take down her killer before he strikes again. But shortly after he begins the investigation, Alex discovers that his niece had gotten mixed up with some very important, very dangerous people.

Annotation:
Work and family have always been two of the most important parts of Alex Cross's life, but when his deceased brother's daughter is found murdered, Alex finds these facets of his life bleeding together in disturbing and stressful ways. The shock of the young woman's death leaves Alex's beloved grandmother Nana--already in delicate health--shaken and fragile. And as Alex investigates, he learns troubling things about his niece, and the mystery expands as the clues lead him to believe that someone from within the government had a nefarious hand in things.

Praise
"Alex Cross rules!...Cross is Patterson at his best--serious, charming and insightful, and the finale will leave you gasping as a master delivers edge-of-your seat suspense." (top pick) - Pat Cooper 11/01/2009

Author Bio
James Patterson
James Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, 50 miles north of New York City. Valedictorian of his class at the Christian Brothers school, St. Patrick's, in 1965, Patterson graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in English. He first entertained the idea of becoming a writer in 1971 when he worked as a college student in a mental institution, a job that afforded him abundant time to read. He came up with the idea for his first novel during that time, and five years later, after 26 rejection slips, his first effort, "The Thomas Berryman Number", appeared in bookstores. Since that time, Patterson has written numerous best-selling thrillers featuring the sensitive, modern-day hero Alex Cross, including "Kiss the Girls", which was made into a major motion picture starring Morgan Freeman.
