 Editor's Note
The feature-length debut of French film-short director Claude Duty, HYPNOTIZED AND HYSTERICAL is a lightly comic study of three 20-something women coming to terms with their careers, their relationships, and themselves. Elodie (Olivia Bonamy) is a working-class single mother struggling to hold down a job so that she can regain custody of her daughter. Marianne (Amira Casar) is an intellectual who dreams of finding true love even as she carries on a tawdry sexual affair with a lecherous art dealer. And Natacha (Marina Fois) is a happy-go-lucky hairdresser who resolves to gain control of her ever-increasing drinking problem. Through a frothy blend of comedy, drama, and the occasional musical sequence (à la François Ozon's 8 WOMEN), Duty examines the intersection of these women's lives and the bonds of friendship that see them through their trials and tribulations.
