A software problem, evidently. It would not work with my windows XP. After a week of emails with HP, I started phone conversations with HP. After almost 3 hours, HP gave up, and suggested that I load the HP Vista software. (I don't have the Vista System, but did have the HP Vista disk). I loaded. It worked for two hours, and then everything crashed. It took me a week to recover.
