HP SCANJET 5590 - FLATBED SCANNER - L1910A#B1H

We use several of these in our offices and they just work great! Several different file formats you can save documents including PDF. Easy to configure and use.

I have been very happy with the scanner. It is easy one touch control to scan. The scan comes in nice and clear. The duplexing is a little slow though.

I've purchased and installed four of these for secretarys to scientists. This scanner is a good value and it's easy to use. I had one go a little wonky when overworked with six months of high volume OCR scanning. Who can blame it?

I purchased the scanner to better organize all of the paper work that we have (ie. credit card statements, bank statements, etc). The scanner works like a charm, saving everything in PDF's. Only issue is that it does tend to jam more often than it should.

Have been using this scanner for about a month to archive financial, school and personal documents that have been just sitting in boxes. This is a solid feeling unit. It's fast. The auto sheetfeeder is sturdy and very reliable. I like being able to put in a stack of paper, start scanning, leave the room to do something else, then come back later and find it's done. Jams tend to be operator error -- forgot to pull a staple, didn't square up the paper before feeding, etc. The included software is adequate for basic image manipulation, and you can save images to .pdf format. Well worth the price especially if you consider that some places charge 25 cents per sheet to electronically archive documents.

I have been looking for a reasonably priced duplex ADF scanner for some time now, I want to scan a file cabinet of documents and shred the originals. I thought this HP was it, it isn't. I spent several hours over a few days giving this guy a workout. I scanned stacks of bank statements (30-35 pages at a time) (8.5 x 11) and mortgage documents (8.5 x 14) both single sided and double sided. Several times the ADF jammed (roller slipped and eventually gave up) and I had to man handle the stuck page out, I could find no way to release its grasp of the paper. These were not glossy pages, just typical bank statements. Other times one or two pages of a stack of 35 would scan in only a third of the page. It cannot scan duplex pages longer then 12 inches, I don't know why. Duplex scanning takes more then twice as long as simplex because it has only a single scanner and must flip the page (I think it does this flipping twice). The software wasn't smart enough to handle scanning mix length pages, if I had a document (for example: mortgage papers) with a mix of letter and legal size pages I had to tell the software that all the pages were 14 inches long otherwise it truncated the legal size to 11 inches. It all boils down to a lack of trust for me. Before I go shredding originals of these documents I need to be able to trust that I have good electronic copies and this scanner/software didn't establish that trust.

The ADF and overall construction of this scanner gives it a professional feel. The ADF even has replaceable parts so over time, you don't have to replace the whole ADF. It does very well scanning with little or no effort on the user's part. If you want to do some custom scanning, the user interface is a little difficult to use, but the quality of the unit makes the UI a minor consideration. If you want a good scanner, this is the one. Forget about Microtek!
