2 of 5 HP 4890 big disappointment for scanning slides Friday, April 13, 2007 A Customer from St. Joseph, Mo.
I purchased the HP Scanjet 4890 to replace an HP 4570c which started to show banding when scanning slides and negatives. This scanner is very easy to use, the quality of DOCUMENTS scanned is quite good. Where it fails is in the scanning of slides (I have not tried negatives at this point). The color of all slides had a rather strong blue tint (almost garish in some cases) which I could not remedy with any of the software provided. My old HP 4570c results in far superior colors and the results with the older 4570c are better in cases where the vertical banding will not show (as in slides where the banding coincides with a vertical wall, for example, etc). For those who are mainly interested in digitizing their slides, I would say stay away from this scanner if you want good color reproduction. This has been a gross disappointment for me.
