5 of 5 Excellent machine, but beware of XP issues Tuesday, May 13, 2008
A Customer from Portland, Oregon

This is an outstanding machine, much faster and higher quality than an earlier generation HP all-in-one it replaced. However, beware that there probably are incompatibity issues for scanning to older XP machines. More than seven hours on the phone with earnest, helpful tech support reps could not resolve the problem. One of them suggested -- and no one could confirm -- that there may be an issue with older XP machines. Works just fine with Vista.

1 of 5 ***BEWARE***Must Read*** Friday, April 18, 2008
A Customer from Florida
***BEWARE***Must Read*** HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 All In One This All In One Printer is a piece of junk! I purchased the first one on April 15th 2008. I have always used and trusted HP Printers. BUT NEVER AGAIN! The first day I tried installing this printer and making a wireless connection to my Linksys WRT54G router was a nightmare. As soon as the wireless connection was made the whole printer would just lock up. Not even the control panel would work. You couldn’t scan, you couldn’t fax, print of copy. You could not even access the setup menu, or even turn it off with the power button. The only way to turn it off was to kill the power cord. Naturally trusting HP, I thought the problem was with me or the installation. I worked on this printer until 1:00 am in the morning, and each time the result was the same. So the next day I called HP Tech support, (outsourced to a foreign country). After working with an agent I could hardly understand for over two and a half hours, The HP agent finally admitted there is issues with this printer. The HP agent could not make the wireless connection either without it locking up the whole printer. He finally suggested I take it back to the store and exchange it for another unit . So after working on this printer for more than 12 hours, I did in-fact exchange it for another unit. Guess what??? The new unit has the same problem. SO HP IS AWARE THAT THIS PRINTER HAS ISSUES. YET THEY HAVE NOT PULLED IT FROM RETAIL. HP Doesn’t care how much time you waste with their crappy products. NEVER AGAIN will I ever buy HP products. I will try Lexmark, or Canon, or Brother. ANYBODY BUT HP.

1 of 5 Rubbish Tuesday, February 19, 2008
A Customer from Victoria Canada
The software wouldn't load. I went to the company site and downloaded but had to do it item by item. Then I could only get the printer to work though it was painfully slow and that was on draft and with grayscale. Neither the scanner, fax, nor the two-sided printing worked. I couldn't get the electronic help file because of the software failure. I wouldn't recommend this machine or Hewlett Packard's support to anyone. Incidentally, to indicate how bad this is after you pay some $500 they don't even give you full ink cartridges.

4 of 5 hp 7780 Wednesday, January 23, 2008
A Customer from montclair, nj
This is a good all in one. It hooked up to my wireless network pretty easily and once I figured out to change settings on my network, got the scanned doc.s to transmit electronically. The scan feature is great and is the cheapest option out there for that. The printer itself is a bit slow and noisy compared to our laser so we choose our jobs accordingly. The feeder tray can be a bit tempermental. Also, the tech people act like they've never solved a problem before, they just run you through the troubleshooting from the website. One other little annoyance- the replace cartridge soon pops up as an error message on your screen all the time. It sounds like I highlighted a lot of negatives, but happy overall.

1 of 5 Horrible HP customer service Monday, December 31, 2007
A Customer from norman, OK
BEWARE OF HP SUPPORT (or lack of)! I really liked the first printer received - excellent print and picture quality. However, when the automatic paper feeder wouldn't work HP decided (after several hours of my time chatting and by telephone trouble shooting) to replace it - sounded like a satisfactory solution. However, the replacement doesn't recognize the 2nd paper tray and the first tray damages about 3 of 4 printed pages at the top of each page. I've spent most of today trying to correct the problem - the best mode of help you can get from HP is through chatting and by telephone which consists of a "technician" reading the help topics on the HP website. Finally I learned that HP's policy is to only send refurbished printers as replacements. I wouldn't mind a refurb so much if I had the original printer longer but I had only had it about 20 days. Further, a refurb wouldn't be so bad if it worked!!! As of this writing I'm still not sure what HP is going to do next...

5 of 5 LINK FOR PRINTER PROBLEM Thursday, November 29, 2007
codonnyc from Bradenton, Florida
I just wrote a review on the 7780 and forgot to mention the following patch. I got up one morning and my notebook wouldn't print. I went to control panel and the 7780 was gone. During my researching the problem I found this link and I haven't had a problem since PATCH IF PRINTER GETS UNINSTALLED SPONTANEOUSLY LINK: PATCH IF PRINTER GETS UNINSTALLED SPONTANEOUSLY LINK: < http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-54112-1&lc=en&sw_lang=8&product=420428&os=228&cc=us> Carmen

5 of 5 Great Printer!! Thursday, November 29, 2007
codonnyc from Bradenton, Florida
I just edited my review and hope it didn't go through because I had some typo's in it. Anyhow HP is a wonderful company to deal with and has always stood behind their product. I have always been treated with their concern for any problem I may have had. Before getting this printer, I was concerned about the size. It is big but not as big or obnoxious as I thought it might be. The 2 models below are should be just as good but the 7780 is the only one of the 3 that was wireless and I needed wireless. The extra paper tray is a plus (660 sheets in all) as well as the big paper ADF. It also has a duplexer built in it, however I haven't used it yet. I've had it about 2 months now. One of the posters had said it was very noisy. I don't find it noisy at all. The only time I hear it is when I first turn it on for the day and it is "reving" up , but the rest of the time I have had to ask my husband "did you hear the printer. Let's not forget it IS a machine and machines make noise either alot or minimal. This one is just fine. Maybe they got a lemon or something. Overall I am very satisfied with the printer, the cost vs. the features you get for the price. Buy the way, the prices are coming down so you might take a look around. I would definitly recommend the 7780 or any of the 7700 series as well as HP as a company. I own 2 of their notebooks also. Thank you for listening as I could go on an on. Carmen

4 of 5 HP Officejet Pro L7780 Series Thursday, November 29, 2007
A Customer from Fergus Falls, MN
Like the printer but am disappointed in the extra paper tray option. I ordered this so that I could have my special paper in a seperate tray. But I "have to" put this in tray 1 because of it's size. BUT the fax option only will print from tray 1 and you can't change that. So....defeated my reason for the extra tray. HP can't seem to help me change this either. Otherwise, I really like the product.

4 of 5 Good value and performance Sunday, August 26, 2007
rkadjusting from Stratford, CT
My new HP All-in-One is a nice replacement unit to my old HP multi-function machine. Although loud, the printer is extremely fast for both B&W and color. I particularly like the scanning capabilities because my business is becoming more and more paperless. It would be nice if the sound tone for a completed fax was louder so I would know that a fax had reached its destination. I like the interactive functionality with the menus and help. The only draw back I find is the paper tray that is difficult to work with and very tight holding 8 1/2" paper. Otherwise, I am happy as usual with the HP All-in-One.

5 of 5 OfficeJet Pro L7780 Thursday, July 12, 2007
Darrell Lapham from Hartland, MI
I decided to buy this unit after reading many reviews off of amazon and cnet. I was able to install it within 30 minutes and that was with a 2 year old playing at my feet. I'm very happy with the purchase. I have used all the features including the wireless that took me all of 5 minutes to set up. Very happy! I would recommend it to others without a doubt. Buy.com was awesome! I did purchase the 2 year warranty in case of trouble.

5 of 5 Better Than I Ever Imagined!!! Monday, June 18, 2007
Colin from Laguna Beach, CA
Amazingly simple to get started using -- I thought I would have to hire a tech guy to set it up, but it took me no longer than a couple of hours one afternoon (software, network & everything!). Quality of the printing is great, speed is phenomenal, and ease of use is refreshing. I highly recommend this product for ANY small business or family with frequent/varied print needs.

5 of 5 Pleased so far on my 3rd gen L7780 multifunction Tuesday, June 12, 2007
rojustic from dalas, tx
Hopefully I can modify this review or add new ones over time. So far I'm quite happy with the unit. Mostly I got a great price for a unit that has 802.11 wireless, duplex printing with auto sheetfeeder and all the options I wanted. I had the old officejet 85 which was great but it was 3 years old and didn't easily connect to the home network I've built. After it started misfeeding papers I figured rather than clean it (call me lazy) I'd get a new one. I love my canon but their top line multifunction didn't have all the features. So far my key observations are: Has all the features I want. Saw a review about inability to lock the top tray.. not an issue for me. HP software stinks as usual - it's a hog and mis installed. I suggest you install from the CD first THEN install latest software from the web. I did that on one machine and it worked great. Did the opposite order on another PC and it had problems. HP knows their software is lame because they have always offered a 'clean' utility to remove all traces of their software - obviously because they know reinstalls are required with their units. That expected issue aside, I like the speed of the printing. I'll come back to discuss ink but for now still on the first ones. Top benefit is the 802.11 wireless network connectivity was a breeze. Manual could have been more clear on how to configure the PC (they assume you know and it's not intuitive for non-nerds IMHO). The printer 802.11 part of the config was a breeze and I use security too. I've still not been able to get the scan to network folder working. Will get with tech support and add comments here. Key complaints so far is that the auto sheetfeeder copy feature often isn't straight when the copies come out. Not sure why. Minor irritation. Another minor irritation is that when I select low quality and reduce image for copying (I copy a lot) it doesn't retain those settings so I have to re-enter each time. Perhaps they offer different profiles. Not clear yet but will read the manual and get back to this review. Also need to see if I can do networked scan. More manual time coming. The auto sheet-feeder is also pretty loud. Irritations aside I'd buy the printer again. For the money I spent it's the official house workhorse printer, networked, lots of paper and all the features I want.

4 of 5 Fabulous Hardware; typical All-in-One HP Software Wednesday, June 06, 2007
Paul Colman from Springfield, VA USA
The HP Officejet L7780 is one of the best all-in-one HP hardware products that I've seen. The print quality is superb in all modes, and HP has gone overboard to make the hardware as self-adjusting as possible. On a workgroup, it conveniently finds and remembers every computer that the software is installed on. However, HP has their typical overly bloated clunky all-in-one software package, whose installation always seems to find one or more bugs, whose reminders are repeatedly annoying, and (most important) never seems to get fully tested before releasing it. This product is no exception to that general and long time rule. But, in my opinion, that is hardly a reason to bypass this printer. Amazing value for the money!!
