5 of 5 File server, too Thursday, January 31, 2008 David Smith from Memphis, TN
This NAS is of course great for backups, but I'm using it as a workaround to the 5-user limit for LAN workgroups imposed by Windows XP-Home. We have 9 workstations, and I was using one of these as a server for our main app, which choked when the sixth station was added. The HPMediaVault stepped in and is working great as a server for our workgroup. However, I did overload it with two sets of independent databases (9 stations each running two disk-heavy apps).
I also really like using the embedded http and ftp servers so I can access the HPMediaVault from my house. The ftp transfers are very quick (cable ISP at both ends).
I would definitely buy it again.

5 of 5 Great Product Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from NJ
Exellent device, simple set up and reliable! I use it to back up our hard drives and as a central data server and it works just fine! Highly recommend this device. Note I do not use it for media so and my comments relate only to data files (microsoft office/pdf/dxf). Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 OK, but not for traveling notebooks Saturday, May 19, 2007 Chris Altwegg from Seattle, WA
This is a pretty good network storage device. Very sturdy, got room for expansion and RAID. My complaint is with the 3rd-party backup software. It has a function which will constantly backup up connected devices. That's great for the little network I administer. No one has to do anything to be constantly backed-up, they just work. But the notebook users, when they are away from the network, get a pop-up notification that the backup drive is disconnected and it pops-up constantly and perpetually. The only way to disable it is to disable the backup and then, when they are reconnected to the network, they're no longer being backed up. Software developer and HP were no help. Too bad, 'cause it would get 5 out 5 for all counts if this problem didn't exist. Was this review helpful?

The HP Media Vault has worked perfectly to date. It is much faster than the Buffalo NAS I had. I have not used all of its features yet, but I have no complaints Was this review helpful?
