5 of 5 Easy alternative to a NAS Tuesday, April 14, 2009
A Customer from Washougal, WA

HP's MediaSmart Servers are getting more support and features every 6 months it seems like. They're integrating their line with Apple products and now they will have the ability to stream video, music, and photos to iphones. You kind of forget after a while that the machine is also backing up your PCs and Macs! Very easy setup, low power consumption, and easy storage upgrades. This is a great buy for all the features that come out of the box. One note, if you have a gigabit nic card on your PC, it's also nice to have a gigabit router or switch to go with this puppy. That will speed your transfers up 5 times faster than a 10/100Mb line.

5 of 5 Easy way to consolidate your multimedia collection Sunday, April 12, 2009
A Customer from Clifton, NJ
I used this server for about couple of weeks. It is an excellent product to consolidate your multimedia collection to one place. Also an important product to keep backup copy of your important files. Pros: 1. Keep all your multimedia collection to one place. 2. Keep backup of all important files. I use goodsync to do this. 3. Easy to use after little learning process. Can be customized to suite your needs. Expandable with addition of internal drives. 4. Use your external drive collections to stream through server. No need to erase content of external drive to do this. There are forums on net discussing this. Very useful if you already have collection on external drive. Cons: 1. Little learning process in begining. There are features which you expect but not available without tweaking. Like connecting external drive as a non-storage device. Password protecting homepage on net etc. 2. No way to password protect photoviewer on homepage. Overall excellent product. Expect to get more features working after learnig from online forums.

5 of 5 Saved from the NAS200 Tuesday, March 17, 2009
A Customer from Alamo, TX
Easy to setup and use than the NAS200, the HP MediaSmart Server is is much more than the NAS200. The biggest problem that I had was getting my computers setup to be able to use the server. I thought that I had everything setup on my network correctly. I had to go to Microsoft's engineers to find out that I had major problems. The setup that I had stumped even them, but after 5 hours in a chat with them an the removal of all virus protection and firewalls (new reinstalled) the system works well on all my computers. The HP MediaSmart people we a great help as well. I know that I have a lot to learn yet, as I want to make some changes. Also, the NAS200 is not really a server, but a network storage system that has limited utility. NAS (Cisco) need to fix some problems with the device...the reset mechanism. For a home network the MediaSmart server is the way to go. My wife even understands how to use it with her computer.
