Author Bio
Dale Carnegie
Dale Carnegie is known for his book "How to Win Friends and Influence People", which has been a perennial bestseller since its publication in 1936. Born in Missouri and educated at Warrensburg State Teachers College, Carnegie worked as a salesman and then moved to New York City where, beginning in 1912, he gave lectures on public speaking at the YMCA. He expanded his lectures to include getting along with people in business and social settings, and he emphasized the need for engineers and technicians to develop public-speaking and leadership skills in order to rise in the business world. Over time, Carnegie expanded his lectures until he had a book, which was expected to be a modest seller. "How to Win Friends and Influence People" uses a combination of maxims, profiles of successful people, and research based on surveys to stir its readers. It is the model for the many subsequent books on success for general readers, and for books on motivation and leadership addressed to the business community.
