Part hard-boiled detective story and part intriguing mystery, Hotel Dusk is an atmospheric yarn that takes place over the course of one night—December 28, 1979.

Kyle Hyde, a disgraced New York detective turned salesman, arrives at a run-down Los Angeles inn called Hotel Dusk. Once there, Kyle soon becomes involved in a 30-year-old mystery that involves lies, betrayal, kidnapping, and murder. And over the course of the night, he will also discover something very special about Room 215… a room that is said to grant wishes.

But who is Kyle Hyde? Why is he haunted by his past? And what happened in Room 215? Only by taking stylus in hand and navigating through the story's twists and turns can you learn the answers.

Hotel Dusk uses branching storylines to tell its tale, giving you many options for how to speak to people. Should you strong-arm the little girl in the hallway? Make nice to the hotel maid? Pretend to be interested in the manager's rambling stories? It's all up to you, but choose wisely. One false step could get you thrown out of the hotel and forever seal the mystery of what happened on that dark Christmas Eve so many years ago...

Bottom Line - Hotel Dusk is a thinking person’s DS title. With its refreshingly unique design and intriguing gameplay, Hotel Dusk is a must-have for mystery lovers and anyone looking for something different for their DS library. You’ll want to check into Hotel Dusk again and again.

5 of 5 Intriguing story, fun to play Friday, February 27, 2009
Satz from Wadsworth, OH

Game play reminds me of the old Sierra adventure games, but this game has a darker, film noir feel and looks like a graphic novel. If you like adventure games, you should enjoy this one. As you explore Hotel Dusk, you converse with people you meet. Each character has their own story, most of which weave together in the end, and gives the story its depth. Along the way you solve puzzles, pick up items, and put two and two together. Nothing too difficult or frustrating. I loved the interface. You holding the DS like a book. While exploring the right-hand screen is a top down view of the hotel, and the character moves to wherever you point with the stylus (you can move using the key pad as well). The left hand screen shows what the characters eyes would see as he moves. When you approach someone to talk to or something to look at, icons highlight and you tap then to talk or to go into a more detailed view to explore individual objects. I invested about 24 hours to complete the game. My wife played it first and really loved it. It's not fast action, and sometimes game conversations can seem to run on and on, but that's how the story is detailed. Because in the end, it is the story that makes this game.

4 of 5 Different Concept, Good Game Friday, February 20, 2009
Dennt from Bridgeport, WV
This game is a nice change from the 'normal' games that are available for gaming systems. As the banner on the game picture says, it is a interactive novel; it is somewhat like a 'choose your own adventure' book from when I was a kid, except if you make an incorrect decision the game is over. I dinged the gameplay because I find that it is a bit slow on the moving, and it feels like you have to double click every item to interact with it. Also, there is no adjustment for the speed of the interactions with the other characters. I find myself constantly clicking and clicking the arrows to speed up the dialog. Also, I wish there was a screen where you could view the last dialog(s) with ALL the interactions. One thing about the gameplay is if you make an incorrect decision and the game ends, it gives you an opportunity to begin again just previous to the interaction that caused you to fail, kind of like a do over of sorts. I like the storyline, and while I am not far into the game, I believe that I am going to enjoy it all the way through.
