| | | Red Riding Hood, The Woodsman, Granny, The Wolf. Not Your Typical Crime. Not Your Usual Suspects. Features: DVD, Widescreen Everyone knows the story of Little Red Riding Hood...or so they think. That's all about to change because no one has ever seen their favorite fairy tale quite like this - turned upside-down, inside-out and reinvented as a computer-animated caper comedy that at last reveals the shocking true-crime investigation behind the legend. At last, the full story can be revealed of how Red (Anne Hathaway), Granny (Glenn Close), The Woodsman (Jim Belushi) and the Wolf (Patrick Warburton) all came together as criminal suspects in a case that almost Hoodwinked the law. With inventive story telling, spunk and wit, filmmakers Cory & Todd Edwards and Tony Leech bring to the screen a story for the young, the young at heart and everyone in between.Hoodwinked begins at the end of the tale and winds its way back...it all begins as a feathered and furry assortment of cops and detectives turn up at Granny's cottage in the woods to answer a domestic disturbance call. It looks at first to be just another open-and-shut case of a woodsman assaulting a wolf impersonating a granny, with an assortment of criminal charges including breaking and entering, intent to eat and wielding an axe without a license. "...fable-skewering sense of humor...the resulting ride is nearly irresistible." Evan Henerson, Los Angeles Daily News "The funniest animated movie since "Shrek"." Shawn Edwards, FOX-TV "An inventive, sweetly satirical, fun-filled family diversion." Susan Granger, ModaMag.com

| | Professional Reviews | Los Angeles Times "[A]n irreverent, hard-edged retelling of Little Red Riding Hood -- a high-energy, imaginative entertainment aimed at younger audiences." 12/16/2005 p.E16Entertainment Weekly "[A] fast and furious crackpot skewering of Little Red Riding Hood....All jokes, bits, and interlocking narrative gimcrackery." 01/20/2006 p.48 Widescreen Review "[The imagery] looks fantastic. Colors are vibrant and richly saturated....The picture is sharp and detailed..." 05/01/2006 p.71 Total Film 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]here's an unhinged wackiness and verbal wit in Cory Edwards' debut feature that makes it considerably more appealing than most cookie-cutter studio animations." 11/01/2006 p.36 ReelViews 7 of 10 Had Hoodwinked looked better, it might have been easier to forgive its shortcomings, and I'm sure children, generous by nature, will do that. But the movie has the appearance of being rushed into theaters with almost no budget. If the Weinsteins want to play with the big boys, they're going to have to come up with the money to compete. Plus, it's hard to figure out who the target audience is. A lot of the material will go over the heads of children, but there are plenty of minor action sequences that will have minimal appeal for adults. The best animated films blend such divergent elements together to create a family experience. In Hoodwinked, they are wed uneasily, making the picture an imperfect match for viewers of any age. The production contains enough positive elements to make it worth a look, but not until it reaches DVD or TV. - James Berardinelli St. Petersburg Times 9 of 10 Hoodwinked is a smart and clever movie with enough witty jokes and plays on fairy tale cliches to keep you laughing right through the end. The animation is good...The voice casting is perfect. This is a CSI kind of movie that in the end left me entertained, and still talking about it after I left the theater. Every child or adult who recalls Little Red Riding Hood will enjoy the amusing twist on this classic tale. Even teenagers will like the video game-like action. Grandmothers in particular will love the energetic Granny, who should be a role model for all grandparents. - William Harvey
