| Author Bio| Nikki Giovanni | | Well known for her poetry for adults, Nikki Giovanni also writes poetry for children. Born Yolande Cornelia Giovanni, Jr., she began attending the University of Nashville when she was 16 years old and later attended the University of Pennsylvania and the Columbia University School of the Arts. Giovanni's work for both adults and children focuses on racial pride and explores her African-American heritage. In addition to her poetry, Giovanni has also written critical essays about James Baldwin and Margaret Walker. |
