| | | The Renegade Version - Director's Cut. Features: DVD, Director's Cut, No Longer Produced, Letterbox, Dolby, Digital Audio, English, Spanish, Subtitled, French, Dubbed This disc features 16 minutes of footage not included in the theatrical release. In addition to the extra footage, the Renegade Version of Highlander II features a different sequence of events, providing continuity lacking from the theatrical release. These changes along with the extra footage allow the movie to follow the plot of the original Highlander movie. The idea of the immortals being from another planet has been done away with, and questions like "What happened to Brenda?" are answered. "...anyone who hasn't seen the film and desires to do so should check this version out." Joseph Savitski, BeyondHollywood.com "...some nice directorial touches, the beginning sequence is actually quite beautiful..." Matt Fuerst, JackassCritics.com
 Editor's Note
In this labyrinthine sequel, the Immortal MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) saves the people of Earth from immanent ozone layer-related destruction by building a shield that deflects sunlight. But the people of Earth aren't especially grateful, as the constant state of night has made them cranky and prone to criminal sprees. Moreover, bounty hunters from the Immortals' home planet, Zeist, have given chase, and it could mean curtains for us all unless MacLeod and an ecologist can liberate the Earth and banish the assassins.
 Plot Summary
Immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod has just been banished to Earth for leading a failed rebellion on his home planet of Zeist. On Earth, he discovers the shield he built to shade humanity from a disappearing ozone -- though obsolete -- is owned and operated by a profit hungry, multi-national conglomerate at Earth's ecological expense. Guided by his spiritual leader Juan Ramirez and aided by beautiful environmental terrorist Louise Marcus, MacLeod will eliminate deadly assassins and dodge a dangerous trapnest to rid planet of his creation.

| | Professional Reviews | Sight and Sound "...[Connery] turns in a wry performance..." 06/01/1991 p.47-8Los Angeles Times "...HIGHLANDER 2 is far more elaborate than the original....It's a picture rife with explosions, and sparks literally fly in virtually every scene..." 11/01/1991 p.F6 DVD Verdict 7 of 10 Highlander 2 is a profoundly silly movie. Yet, it's also quite a rarity: it's a darned well-written profoundly silly movie. There are truly inspired moments in this film...Connor's character is relatively rich in detail compared to the typical action/adventure hero - he's quite melancholy, and we really get a sense of how emotionally painful it is to be immortal. Ironside is more over-the-top than usual in the Katana role, which is great fun to watch. The character seems to be a bit psychotic to begin with, so Ironside's scenery-chewing is perfect...if you're a fan of the Highlander universe, you might want to give it a look. At best, you might find that what was once a horrible, horrible film has become downright tolerable, and actually somewhat entertaining at times. - David Ryan
