| Author Bio| Cynthia Rylant | | Multifaceted author Cynthia Rylant is the creator of picture books, poetry, short stories, and novels. Raised primarily in West Virginia by both her mother and her maternal grandparents, Rylant had a rustic but happy childhood. Her first book, WHEN I WAS YOUNG IN THE MOUNTAINS, is a reflection of her childhood and was named a Caldecott Honor Book. Her 1985 work, THE RELATIVES CAME, also received that honor. In addition to these picture books, Rylant is well known for her easy-reader series that focuses on the adventures of a boy named Henry and his lovable dog, Mudge. Her young adult novel A FINE WHITE DUST was named a Newbery Honor Book in 1987. |
