| | | "From Creative Producers Mike Mignola and Guillermo del Toro. Featuring the Voices of Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones and Peri Gilpin!" Features: DVD, Animation, Book In this first animated feature from Director Tad Stones (Buzz Lightyear of Star Command), and Creative Producers Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy comics) and Guillermo del Toro (writer/director of the Hellboy movie), a folklore professor becomes unwittingly possessed by the ancient Japanese demons of Thunder and Lightning. But when The Bureau of Paranormal Research & Defense dispatches a team of agents to investigate, a cursed samurai sword sends Hellboy (Ron Perlman) to a supernatural dimension of ghosts, monsters and feudal mayhem. Now while pyrokinetic Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) and fishboy Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) battle one very pissed-off dragon, a lost and cranky Hellboy must find his way home. Even if he can survive the perilous journey, how much crap does a guy have to put up with from the two most vengeful and ferocious spirits of Japanese legend? "...mixes dark fantasy elements, intelligent character work, wild action...all complimented by terrific artwork." David Cornelius, eFilmCritic.com "...an entertaining addendum to the Hellboy franchise...dazzling images...wonderfully unique villains..." Jim Hemphill, Reel.com
 Editor's Note
When a professor of folklore opens an ancient scroll and becomes possessed by powerful spirits, the authorities call on Hellboy for help. But Hellboy has battles of his own when he picks up a samurai sword that transports him to a netherworld of ghosts and monsters. Intrigue and action abound in this Hellboy animated feature entitled SWORD OF STORMS.

| | Professional Reviews | Ultimate DVD 3 stars out of 5 -- "The eye-pleasing layout feels cinematic, the action and camera moves are fluid...and there's a full score." 03/01/2007 p.95DVD Talk 9 of 10 Its production was overseen by del Toro and Hellboy's daddy, comics legend Mike Mignola, along with Tad Stones, who previously helmed some of the Aladdin sequels and Buzz Lightyear for Disney, and director Phil Weinstein. Together they have come up with a fun action picture that should please Hellboy fans as well as give parents something they can watch with their older children...Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms is an entertaining extension of the Hellboy franchise. The animators have stayed faithful to the earlier versions of the character, giving us a new adventure with some cool supernatural creatures from Japanese mythology. Strong, stylized animation brings the characters to life and delivers inspired action sequences, making for a quality feature rather than just some knock-off sequel...A truly excellent DVD. - Jamie S.
