| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Includes liner notes by Kevin Eastman. | | The original soundtrack to Heavy Metal 2000, the sequel to 1981's cult classic animated film, gathers appropriately moody and aggressive songs from Hate Dept., Days of the New, Apartment 26, and Machine Head. Monster Magnet's "Silver Future," Insane Clown Posse's "Dirt Ball," Zilch's "Inside the Pervert Mound," and Sinisstar's "Psychosexy" are among the album's highlights, along with Bauhaus' first new effort in 17 years, "The Dog's a Vapour." A quintessentially brooding and stark song, it shows that the group has remained fresh as well as classic, and it's easily the soundtrack's best cut. The limited-edition version of Heavy Metal 2000 also features deluxe packaging and artwork, making it essential for new and old Heavy Metal fans; this package was also released in a different version with a less explicit cover, making it more acceptable to family-oriented chain stores. ~ Heather Phares | | The 1981 animated motion picture Heavy Metal (from the creators of the publication by the same name) is a certifiable cult classic, full of imaginative visuals, unpredictable storylines, and an all-star soundtrack. The only problem was, not all of the musical artists could be classified as true heavy metal, such as Devo, Stevie Nicks, Journey, and Donald Fagen, among others. But the 2000 sequel, Heavy Metal FAKK2, comes with a truer heavy metal soundtrack. Comprised of music from both established bands and newcomers, there's a little bit of everything for most 21st century headbangers. Included are tracks from such renowned heavy hitters as Pantera ("Immortally Insane"), Monster Magnet ("Silver Future"), and Machine Head ("Alcoholocaust"), as well as such newer acts as Queens of the Stone Age, System of a Down, Hate Dept, Puya, and Coal Chamber. Like the original, a few non-heavy metal bands slip through the cracks (Billy Idol, Bauhaus), but by and large, Heavy Metal FAKK2 lives up to its title. ~ Greg Prato | | Nineteen years ago, the movie "Heavy Metal" broke new ground in film animation. Its accompanying soundtrack gathered some of the hottest rock acts of the time, although the likes of Devo, Donald Fagen, and Don Felder could hardly be considered either hard rock or metal. Now, HEAVY METAL 2000 has rectified the situation as metal and industrial acts unite on an ear-splitting album. | | Maintaining the values of the original film, "F.A.K.K. U" is an extreme aural breach that screams sex, drugs and rock & roll. Monster Magnet's rock radio hit "Silver Future" starts off in a deceptively mellow mood, until it's overtaken by Dave Wyndorf's slashing guitar riffs. Pantera stokes the metal tradition with its pounding, aggressive "Immortally Insane," while Days Of The New inject their acoustic stylings into the proceedings on "Rough Day," and Queens Of The Stone Age proffer a psychedelic "Infinity." Billy Idol, who provides the voice for one of the film's main characters, retains his snarl and attitude on his first track in seven years, the appropriately-titled industrial workout "Buried Alive" with rap-metal represented by an Insane Clown Posse/Twiztid one-two punch on the anti-police "Dirt Ball." | Producer: Bruce Berman |
