The Shirley Muldowney Story.

Features: DVD

Bonnie Bedelia--in the triumphant performance that earned her a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actress--stars as Shirley "Cha Cha" Muldowney, the young wife and mother who defied the sport of drag racing to become the only female top fuel champion in NHRA history. But before she could reach the record books, Shirley had to survive an abusive first marriage, her volatile love affair with fellow racer Connie Kalitta (Beau Bridges of The Killing Time and Norma Rae), a horrific accident, and a sexist world that tried to stand in the way of one remarkable woman who dared to put her heart on the line.

Anthony Edwards of ER co-stars in this Deluxe 25th Anniversary Edition of the film Newsweek called "one of the best American movies of the year," now packed with all-new Bonus Materials featuring racing legends Shirley Muldowney, Don Garlits, Connie Kalitta and much more!

"...this is a wonderful movie, and I highly recommend seeking it out."  FilmFanatic.org
"A spectacurlarly satisfying movie! Ferociously good entertainment..."  Los Angeles Times

Editor's Note

The story of premier drag racer Shirley Muldowney, who became the first driver ever to win the National Hot Rod Association's World Championship more than once. In order to do so, she had to break not only speed records, but formidable sexual barriers as well. Academy Award Nominations: Best Costume Design.

This spunky, affecting and well-crafted movie is about the first woman to succeed in the male-dominated sport of big-time drag racing...Kaplan directs Heart Like a Wheel with great poise, carefully balancing Shirley's personal development with a behind-the-scenes look at the sport of drag racing. Ken Friedman's screenplay moves full-speed ahead in its thematic consideration of love and work. This uptempo biopicture deserves a wide audience given its subject matter and striking character profiles. - Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat
