5 of 5 Read the instructions carefully. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 T Lee Horne III from Franklin, LA
I recommend this product only for those who are willing to read and follow the instructions. It works beautifully once the setup is done. Setup is easy if you are familiar with networking. It is not a turn it on and presto it works type of device. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Thursday, March 05, 2009 Raj from Plano, TX
I followed the short set up manual step-by-step and the xtender was set up in 10 minutes. It has boosted the signal of PS3 from 10% to 90%. The extender is upstairs and it works with the verizon Actiontec router downstairs - both are seperated by 3-4 walls. Exxcellent and cheap. Have it a week so far - no drops. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Found why these don't work Monday, September 15, 2008 A Customer from Moab, UT
I purchased two of these, and wasted two days trying to figure out why they worked sometimes and wouldn't work the rest of the time. I finally figured out that the very small switching power supply doesn't work properly with the extender. If you plug the power supply into the extender BEFORE you plug the power into a wall outlet it will NOT work. If you plug the power supply into the wall outlet first, and then into the extender it will work fine. Even though it will work that way, anytime you lose power it will not work again until you disconnect and reconnect the power cord at the extender. I picked up two 12 VDC power supplies at a thrift shop for $2 each, and now I'm back in business. It does work well as a repeater. The HDREG1 is a lot easier to use than the previous version.
After spending hours on the phone with people in India, I called Hawking sales, and got them to transfer me to someone in Engineering. Hopefully they'll soon package the extender with a power supply that works. Was this review helpful?

There is no noticable difference in my connections with or without the extender. Would I recommend it to you, NO! I'll keep trying. Was this review helpful?

I love Hawking products, so was so encouraged when they came out with this. I am a full time computer tech, and have many opportunities to use something like this. The first two I bought wouldn't program at all, even with a firmware upgrade, so I sent them back and got them replaced. The next two programmed fine, but did nothing to extend the range at all. The idea is to take a one or two bar existing connection and boost it up a bar, so you could theoretically go where you previously no bar. I tried several locations. It couldn't maintain a hold on the router in a location where my laptop could surf a single bar, so I moved it to a two bar location, but then I would lose my connection to it in about 20 feet. I don't know if I can send them back, but I'm going to try. (By the way, I tried the connection to three different routers. The problem was not that it didn't like my router).
