This was a good find for me. My computer is a couple rooms away from the router and the best signal I could get was 18Mbps, most of the time it would hang around 11. Now it is a constant 54Mbps and my download speeds are incredible.
One thing to be aware of, you must have a router with a removable antenna for this product to work, luckily I did and installation was no problem, you hook it up to the router, plug it in, and you're done. Was this review helpful?

Hooked it up to my ActionTec 4 Port Wireless router/access point, model: MI424WR on the 2nd floor of a large house. Rebooted the router. Went to my basement and my signal was maxed on my PCI-card wireless. Fired up the xbox 360 that is right next to the basement desktop. It went from 1 bar (in the yellow/red) to all 5 bars green. Started up on-demand Netflix. Previously, Netflix would give an error due to lack of bandwidth for streaming. Now, Netflix streams without hesitation. Best $60 I've ever spent on network equipment. The cost is a small fraction of converting over to a wireless N network and this piece makes more sense than buying the directional antenna that Hawking offers. All my G equipment smokes now and takes full advantage of the FIOS.
I recommend leaving the short antenna on the unit; switching out the larger antenna that came with my wireless router had a negative impact on the unit's performance.

5 of 5 PERFECT Wednesday, February 11, 2009 A Customer from central Wisconsin
solution for difficult wireless connectivity issues.
Operating at the 200mw level improved my signal from 1 bar to 4.
I'm using one of these at both ends along with directional antennae but, as I said, it's a difficult situation made useable thanks to these little signal amplifiers.
Even with the expense getting set up a few years ago I recouped my expenditures in a year vs. having a separate business internet line. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 This thing works as advertised! Monday, August 13, 2007 Mike from Medina OH
Simple hook up tp my D-Link router. 2 cable screw on's and plug in the power.
My Tivo is downstairs ( wireless router is upstairs). Before this amp my signal was just "good" downstairs (sometimes "marginal") and showed 40-60 percent on the Tivo wireless signal strength screen.
After I hooked this amp up I have 85 to 90 percent signal downstairs and Tivo rates the signal as "excellent".
I have not tried my laptop yet but I am sure there are areas of my home that have improved signal.
I have another Tivo upstairs in a room across from the wireless router. The best signal I got before was about 86 percent.
Now it is 100 percent no matter whrer I move the Tivo wireless adapter.
Maybe overkill?? But it makes me feel better when I am downloading movies from Tivo Unbox on Amazon! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Product Sunday, August 12, 2007 PJ Kalra from Plano, Tx
I can use my laptop any where in the house and yard because this booster has given me the freedom to be away from my router.

5 of 5 Works as advertised Saturday, August 11, 2007 A Customer from Daytona Beach, FL
Simple to setup - just pluged in power and attached provided coax cable to existing access point antenna output.
Significant signal strength increase throughout the area I wanted to cover and I assume the receive sensitivity has also improved, since have very good throughput in what used to be fringe areas.
You could also easily use a higher gain antenna for even better results, but that was not necessary for me.

1 of 5 High Gain Booster Sunday, July 29, 2007 Mark from New York City
I purchased this unit based on Manufacturers Specs and some buyer's review.RAVED REVIEWS it received don't justify its performance. I purchased it and then contacted Hawking's tech support for the antenna adapter for my Linksys GB wireless router. I specified the router's name and model and requested the proper adapter. I was pointed to the website's link of the item. I purchased the adapter (approx cost incl shipping was $15.00.
When the adapter arrived I couldn't use it due to the fact that my router had no removable antennaes.I contacted the tech support again and was informed that; "if the antenna is not removable, than I have to buy an access point for additional $79.00 to use it with this booster, which costs alost as much as the access point. I should have been informed by the tech suport(prior to my purchase) that the booster can't be used with my router and I would have to purchase an additional access point.Long story short. I connected the booster to an access point (checking the reception prior to the installation)setting it up at the highest power (500 MW)I changed the locations of the booster and the access point (several times) to gain a better coverage. I couldn't get any improvements over the existing speed using my old hardware.
I would not recommend this unit to anyone. I will return it to Buy.com for a full refund.

5 of 5 Really works! Thursday, July 26, 2007 Jon from Clearwater, FL
I was getting about 24Mbs max and Good signal. With the booster on it's middle setting, I get 54 Mbs and Excellent. Great stuff...
Only downside - I have a Linksys WRTP54G and bought the SMA to TNC jumper cable based on prior reviews. I didn't need it as this box already had an SMA connector. So, check first! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great but... Tuesday, July 17, 2007 A Customer from Wayland, MA
This booster really amplifies the signal noticably, but don't use the antenna supplied or you won't see much of an improvement.
A 5 or 7dbi antenna, like the DLink ANT24 that I use, insures you'll get the coverage you want. Unfortunately that will add another $30-40 to your setup. Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Works great with Apple Airport Extreme BUT... Thursday, July 05, 2007 A Customer from Portland, OR
I use this with my Apple Aiport Extreme Base Station. It works great! It adds 50% to the workable range of the base station. This is a real 50% improvement, not theoretical. I use it in a multilevel house with outdoor deck and it provides good signal throughout. Without this amplifier, the base station did not cover the entire house and deck due to walls and floors. BUT, there is one small catch - you must buy the optional Apple Airport connection cable. Buy.com has it, "Hawking Tech SMA Jack To Apple Connector Jumper Cable For Airport Extreme - HACSA" so order it at the same time otherwise you will be frustrated because few places seem to stock this connection cable. The other thing that you must double check is that you have the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station with the external antenna connector. Without the external antenna connector, you cannot use this item. Finally, read the setup direction closely as you must set the Apple Airport to use the external antenna - if you just plug it in, the Apple Airport continues to use the internal antenna. This is a great product that really works! Was this review helpful?

This really is a great product - it greatly increases transmission power and reception sensitivity. I used two of these as part of setting up an outdoor network covering an entire campground with a WDS mesh. They greatly increased the coverage area of the network - I bought 4 more of them after my experiences with the amps. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Signal Booster Thursday, November 23, 2006 Esteban from Miami
I have a Acer Aspire 5102WLMi, a WRT54G linksys wireless router and with this Hawking Hi-Gain Signal Booster V.2 the signal is excellent in my hole house, inclusive I have good signal across the street. This Hi-Gain Signal Booster ROCKS. Was this review helpful?

While it took awhile to get my booster up and running (I, too, needed the adapter for a Linksys WRT54Gs router, which I had to order separately after the fact), its performance once connected was spectacular.
Our router and booster both sit on a desk top _in a corner_ and generate "Very Good" wireless signals for a "802.11b" (not "g") Dell miniwireless card (on board) on an older Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop...which resides on the 3rd floor of our house (again, the booster is in a corner in a room 2 floors below). The booster's configured for the max setting--600--for this reception.
The real kicker, though, is that we live in a house built in 1920 with lath and plaster walls...sheetrock is nowhere to be found. You don't drive nails into the walls; you drill into them. Before this booster, the wireless reception was "Low" at best, and frequently "Unavailable." I am simpy amazed. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Great product Wednesday, August 30, 2006 A Customer from Louisiana
Worked great. It easily doubled my network area and strenght. I have it installed to a base line linksys router and can connect at least to 600 feet away through on the other side of another house.
I also tried it in my neighbors house at about 400 feet away and I connect with my HP Pavilion (adapter that came with it) at 30mbps. Internet connection is just as fast as if I were in the same room.
I have it running at the highest setting, I did not try it at a lower setting.
Only negative thing is that it has give off a high pitched noise that is hardly noticeable. My ears are pretty sensitive so I noticed it but don't notice it now really.

5 of 5 Highly Recommended Sunday, July 02, 2006 A Customer from Hartfield, VA
Installed one outdoors under a boathouse shed for a 90 slip marina in Virginia about a year ago. Connected to 15dbi outside antennae. Covers most all anchored users in the creek as well. Has continued to work fine in the varied outdoor temperatures. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Strong Signal, Great Product Thursday, June 08, 2006 Brandon from St. Louis, MO
The whole purpose for getting this item was to be able to use my laptop in the backyard. Now, I get an Excellent signal through out my house (when at times, I would have Very Low), and outside in my backyard, it's a Good to Excellent signal. Much easier to set up than I expected, only took about 3 minutes. I would recommend this to anybody thinking of a higher priced version. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Super Signal Booster!! Wednesday, February 22, 2006 Andre from New York
No more deadspots and guaranteed "very good" to "excellent" signal always, in my large house (4 floors), and that was on the medium strength setting. On high, I might as well start charging my neighbors for using my wireless network! One thing to keep in mind when considering this purchase is that for some wireless routers (as in the case with my Linksys), you must make a purchase of an additional cable. Lastly, it took longer to take this item out of the Buy.com box and Hawking box than it was to set up. Was this review helpful?
6 of 9 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 I use it with a Cisco Wireless-G Router Monday, September 26, 2005 digitalfotopro from Rockville, Maryland

I ordered this item, but was disappointed it didn't have the required cable coverter (in the box) to hook it up to my Cisco router. I had to order that part directly from Hawking Technolgies for an additional $9.00 on top of the $75.00 I paid for this item. Also, I paid $8 FEDEX Ground shipping and it took about a week to receive that part required to hook the cable up with a Cisco router. Hawking needs to focus better on servicing their customers quickly and efficiently. They get an "F" for customer service.

Their tech support by phone is a "1" on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being great service. I was on hold in que for 20 minutes (trying to determine if I needed that part or not) and then a message came on to leave a message.

Then I had to e-mail support because I didn't have any confidence I'd get a call back. I was right. However, they e-mailed me a few hours later. </>
The product itself is easy. Just follow the instructions right out of the box.

Despite Hawking Technologies poor customer service, this product is outstanding! It has exceeded my expectations and it performs well.

I have my router in my loft (in my town house) and I frequently go downtairs with my wireless laptop. Before, I had a weak signal and spotty coverage throughout the house, but now the wireless signal consistently shows the signal as "excellent." My Internet connection on my laptop is now incredibly responsive, showing no lag time in pulling-up Internet web pages.

Overall satisfaction with this product = 4. Would have gotten a 5, but their customer service and needs improvement.

Definitely improved the range of my linksys WRT54G. Easy installation. Cheaper and much easier to use than buying one of those relay hubs. Works great if you have a Sony PSP as well, because they don't seem to have a very strong wifi transmitter. I can now get a very good/excellent signal in all parts of my house upstairs and downstairs (2800 sq ft). Was this review helpful?

I needed to extend my wireless coverage to cover a 2800 Sq. Ft. house and this did the trick! All I did was remove my existing Dlink router antenna, replaced it with this, and plugged it into the wall. Where I was getting no signal before in the upstairs corner of my house, I now get 90% signal! Amazing! This unit is adjustable 100mw, 200mw or 500mw which is handy if you have neighbors closby like I do and don't want to broadcast your signal everywhere, you just use the power you need. Highly recommended! Was this review helpful?
