WinTV-HVR-1600 brings over-the-air high definition ATSC digital TV, clear QAM digital cable TV and analog cable TV to your PC. Watch and record TV in a window or full screen using high quality MPEG-2.
Clear QAM TV channels are unencrypted digital TV channels broadcast by your local cable operator. Many cable operators in North America are transmitting the high definition ATSC channels on their cable networks. They also broadcast the basic cable channels in using clear QAM. You can use the WinTV v6 application to watch and record these channels.
ATSC digital TV is the over-the-air HD digital TV for North America. ATSC digital TV typically requires an antenna for reception, and is currently broadcast in 200 cities, with over 1500 TV stations. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. The WinTV-HVR can be used to watch and record all ATSC formats.

Hauppauge HVR-1600 model 1183 ROCKS... The Pic does not show the media center remote.
The ATSC (digital) does not work like my digital converter for over the air. HVR-1600 only pics up a few channels, but I'll be getting DirectTV soon.
I do not use the FM radio. I have too may MP3 songs for that.
Works awesome with MCE 2005 system
Picture quality is perfect on a 61inch TV with 1080p
I love being able to record live TV to pause it to take a Dump. LOL

The picture does not depict the Hauppauge model 1183 (as of 8/13/2008).
This model actually comes with the famous black media center remote w/ the green button (not the grey Hauppauge remote). And the HVR-1600 card is a little different too, it has a coax input for ATSC (digital), NTSC/QAM (analog or cable), and one for FM radio, as well as composit audio inputs and an S-Video input with an optional composit to S-Video converter.
The card is a breeze to install and setup. It works great with my MCE 2005 system (windows xp media center edition, 2005). Was this review helpful?

I was a bit worried this would not work natively with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. However, it was recognized just fine and works flawlessly - Analog Cable TV and FM radio. Picture quality is acceptable. FM tuning does not give the info for station/song title, but I don't know if MCE does this and/or if the card does not decode it either.
I attached a digital antenna for getting over-the-air HDTV, but it did not pick them up (using WinTV's own application). Seems like it should work, but I'll chalk it up to weak signal as I can not prove it is the card. Was this review helpful?

Running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Installed the card and the USB remote sensor and booted the PC. Both devices were recognized and I didn't have to install any external drivers.
TV card and remote were found during the setup of the Vista Media Center software and fully operational in about 5 minutes.

I purchased this item to put into my desktop in an effort to get rid of my Tivo. The card installation was simple and the driver installation was great. Windows Media Center had no problems configuring the card to capture the signal and I plan on ordering another one to add an additional tuner to the box. The computer performance hasn't suffered at all when the card is capturing. I highly recommend this product. Was this review helpful?
