    Unless you have a very fast PC or laptop with more than 3Ghz CPU and more than 2GB memory,this HD tuner will not work properly,besides,the small antenna that comes with it is very unsensitive,very few channels will be picked up using it.Its recomended to use an outdoor antenna.Software is not well designed. I gave it away to a friend.Not good to me.

    I connected this tuner to my Acer 8930G notebook running Windows 7 Ultimate. I did NOT install the CD that came with it. Windows 7 detected it, installed drivers, and recognized it in Windows Media Center with no problems. I don't know what the other guy was talking about 800x600 resolution limit, as I had no such limit that I could tell. Windows Media Center actually detected my resolution as 1360X768 Widescreen and the tuner worked great in full HD. I recorded the Notre Dame football game on ABC HDTV to test and it looked as good as live. I was using the included antenna and picked up all 4 networks and 2 local christian channels. What a buy for the price!

    Does exactly as advertised. Receives analog (for connecting to your cable box or dish receiver) and digital (for of-the-air channels) and lets you record onto any file of your choice in MPEG format on you hard drive. This way you can burn DVD's from movies you originally recorded on you TIVO or dish DVR.

    I bought the HVR-850 after getting a 22" widescreen monitor for my computer. It was cheap ($45 after rebate) and easy to install (load the software and plug-it in). It works great in terms of functionality. You can put a little window in the corner of your screen and watch while you work. The recorder also works well with or without the timer. The only issue I have is that the max resolution is 800x600. This is fine for a small window, but at full screen, the resolution isn't very good.
