2 of 5 Works - sort of Sunday, November 01, 2009 Steve B from Dallas, TX
First, I must admit I'm not using this as most people would be - I'm using it on a Linux (Ubuntu) media server with SageTV. After downloading the necessary drivers I was able to get the ATSC tuner working. However, I never could get the NTSC to work, some problem with getting the audio according to the logs. Who cares now analog is dead? Well, in my setup I still use some modulators in-house to distribute NTSC over coax, also it would still be a problem when using the analog video/audio inputs. Probably operator error at my end, I'm still getting my feet wet with Ubuntu.
I can also echo another reviewer's comment about the tuner being weak. In particular, here in Dallas, we have an ATSC station on channel 8 which this device just will not tune (I also have an Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus and a HDHomerun which work fine on this channel).
Finally, I must correct the comments from pig-in-a-poke; there is no need to compress ATSC signals as they are already MPEG2 and the data just needs to be streamed from the tuner. The fact that this device has a hardware encoder for the analog inputs actually relieves the workload on your CPU so this is a plus. Now, rendering that data stream for an HD broadcast may strain your graphics hardware but that's hardly the fault of the tuner! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Titan TV does work Monday, June 08, 2009 Mark from Lake Hopatcong, NJ
Amended report. This does work with titantv.com but you have to enter into titantv under account settings wintvdtr in watch settings and pvr settings and you have to associated the .tvpi extension into windows explorer with the wintv program. And of course, no where is this explained anywhere. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Works with Vista 64 Friday, June 05, 2009 Mark from Lake Hopatcong, NJ
This actually works with Vista 64 but you'd never know how from the manual or the website that it does not work with the provided software, wintv version 6. There is new software on the website, wintv 7, which works nicely, if somewhat unstablely with Vista 64. It would have been nice if somewhere on the website this had been specified. Now, it is clear that wintv 7 is a work in progress. It crashes pretty frequently. It does handle both analog and HD digital stations well, and it will record programs from either. However, although there is a guide function, it is not functional and the program does not receive instructions from Titan TV; you have to program all recording manually. The remote works well enough with wintv. Sagetv also works with this tuner and vista 64, but that's another $70 and it seems to only work with analog TV. Media Center works with this tuner, but it doesn't record. Overall, it took me a couple of days to get this to work. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great PVR Wednesday, December 24, 2008 A Customer from Sylmar, CA
Does what it's supposed to do. Very satisfied with the performance. Stable and great picture.
I still think it was a little on the expensive side but I appreciate the onboard MPEG2 encoder.
Also, the built in digital receiver is just a tad weak. But overall a great product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Product! Worked just as I planned. Saturday, September 06, 2008 A Customer from California
Excellent quality, no "Blue Screen of Deaths". My only complaint is that the remote isn't Media Center compatible. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Product! Worked just as I planned. Monday, August 25, 2008 A Customer from California
This TV tuner worked perfecly, I was able to use it with Windows Vista 64-bit. I was able to record all those late night 2008 Olympic events. My only complaint is that the remote control is not "Media Center" compatible.

This device costs way too much for what it can / does do. I first tried it on Win XP Pro (MCE2005) and the product worked outside of MCE OK but inside MCE can only get analog input. An Analog unit would be much cheaper solution. Most people that have MCE and use it are people that want simple; which is what Microsoft gives you; a very restrictive do it my way ... no or else.
I then installed the unit on a new Vista Premium (incluses Media Center) and it will NOT work outside of MCE. Inside MCE you can get HD Over The Air OR analog (composite / svid) but not both. The WinTV6 software will not install at all from the CD and the updated download installed but won't run. Furthermore, I could not get the included IR blaster to be recognized by MCE so if I had not already had an HP approved IR interface I would not have been able to even test the analog under MCE senario.
The unit only compresses (MPEG2) analog inputs. So you do need a heafty machine to process HD signals. Managing Microsofts MCE file format (drv-ms) is also a pain. I'm still looking for a Video processing package that will accept it directly. The video tools that come with Vista are pretty lame. Was this review helpful?
