3 of 5 Remake Makes Me Want to Watch the Original Again. Monday, March 20, 2000 A Viewer from Paducah, KY
Shirly Jackson wrote the difinitive tale of a haunted house in her classic novel, 'The Haunting of Hill House.' Unfortuantely, the producers of this movie threw away her script and tried to write their own. It seems as if the writers don't even remember what came first in the movie--as the first people to fall victem to the curse of Hill House escape without any drama, while the main characters can't escape to save their lives. The acting is top rate, and the sets are the most lavish I've ever seen. Trouble is, the script should have been scrapped in favor of the original novel--or the script from the original 'Haunting of Hill House,' which is a far better movie indeed. Was this review helpful?
