| Author Bio| J. K. Rowling | | One night, as a young J. K. (Joanne Kathleen) Rowling traveled from Manchester to London by train, an idea for a book about a boy wizard named Harry Potter formed in her mind. It would change the course of her life forever. As a young girl growing up in Chepstow, Gwent, a historic town near the Lower Wye Valley in Southern England, Rowling loved to tell stories, and started to write them down when she was 6-years-old. Throughout her schooling, she entertained her friends during lunchtime with fantastic made-up stories. After studying French at the University of Exeter, Rowling went on to work in London, until at age 26, she moved to Portugal to teach English as a second language. There, she married, became pregnant, and worked on her Harry Potter manuscript whenever she had a spare second. The death of her own mother made his orphaned state much more real to her. Rowling's marriage ended in divorce, and she moved to Edinburgh with her newborn daughter, Jessica. ||After five years of writing, and a year's worth of publisher rejections, HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE was bought by Bloomsbury (U.K.) and published in June 1997. Rowling has once again outdone herself. The final installment to the famous Harry Potter series held up to the expectations of fans while creating a literary contribution that will be reread for generations. The only complaint I have, and it is a small one I assure you, is that the story does get a little long without much action, although there is character development, in the middle of the book. I have always been an avid book reader, and finally decided to purchase an audiobook version of the series; the result is that I plan to purchase the rest of the books on CD despite the fact that I already know them by heart and have them in book form. Trust me, this book is great for a long car ride although I have also listened it while exercising. Was this review helpful?

This is the book that converted my wife and I (late 30's) from fans to complete Harry Potter geeks. We listened to the entire book twice in the first month after purchase, then re-listened to the last 3 disks another 2 times. The plot takes pieces of information from the pevious 6 books, ties them together, and ends the series in a perfect, satisfying resolution.
