Navigation + entertainment
The Guide + Play features a Secure Digital™ memory card slot, so you can play back your favorite music through the navigator using optional SD cards. You can browse through your MP3 and WMA music files by artist, album, genre, song, or playlist, while the 4" screen displays album artwork and ID3 tags.
The Guide + Play comes with a built-in headphone jack for personal listening, and a built-in speaker so you can share your music with your friends. You also get a carrying case to protect the Guide + Play outside of your vehicle.

I got this unit after playing with a few different ones at a local dept store. The selling point on this unit for me was really the responsiveness of the touch screen. The Garmin units all feel a bit slow or laggy when typing or making selections on screen. I mention Garmin specifically because that was the only other brand I was considering. Pretty much any and all media reviews of GPS units tell you that Garmin is the best thing since sliced bread.
Anyway, there's a couple things they don't really tell you about that I tried to get information on before buying. The traffic function requires an additional antenna to be plugged into the side of it. It is provided and it has suction cups to help you mount it, but it is another wire you have to find a spot for. The traffic subscription also costs $50 one time fee, it says it's on special down from $100. I'm not sure if it's one of those permanent discounts or maybe it's the going rate for the Harman Kardon units.
Traffic was the only reason why I got the GPS-510 over the GPS-310. The price difference was small enough that I thought it might be handy to have or try out. I live in the Seattle area and there's pretty much only one way to get anywhere so even when the traffic information tells you that traffic is bad, re-routing around it is generally not going to help much. I did get a chance to try the traffic service out in Portland and I can't say it helped me much there either. I'm still within the 90 day free trial of the traffic service, but I'm not so sure I will subscribe to it after the fact.
Aside from the purchase deciding factors for me, the unit does a great job helping you find your way around. Was this review helpful?
