Audio portion works with any iPod featuring an iPod dock connector. Charges all iPods except 4G Nano, 3G iPhone, 2G touch and 120GB Classic.

Harman Kardon's Drive + Play is more than just an iPod adapter — it's a complete digital music control system for your car. In fact, the Drive + Play handles the iPod so well that it was given an Innovations Award at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show.

Consider the system's backlit LCD display, which mounts up high on the dash for easy visibility while driving. And since it matches the display on your iPod — with the same menu style and general layout — you already know how easy it is to jump between songs and artists.

But the Drive + Play system is all about control, and its Text Commander Controller handles file navigation with ease and elegance. Shaped like an oversized mushroom, this remote mount command center works just like the click wheel on your iPod — just press the outer buttons to play, pause, fast-forward, or reverse, and twist the knob to scroll through the menus. Install it on your center console for a handy, easy-to-reach controller.

While your iPod is connected to the system, you'll be able to control every aspect of playback — from track selection to playlists. And best of all, the Drive + Play will charge your iPod battery while it's in use.

The central "brain" unit can be mounted out of the way in the glove box or under a seat, and a built-in wireless FM transmitter lets you play the iPod through your vehicle's FM radio. If your stereo has an auxiliary input, you can connect the Drive + Play's audio output to it for the best possible sound performance. The Drive + Play also offers a pass-through auxiliary input for connecting an additional component to your stereo system.

5 of 5 Good Product Sunday, January 11, 2009
J. B. Borge from NRH, TX

Installation was a little challenge but overall, very satisfied w/ audio quality & fit/function. Initially, I was going to replace my entire head unit just to get my ipod working in my car. Luckily, i stumbled in to this product & worked even better than i expected. & the best part, saved me $$$.

4 of 5 Wonderful but a bear to install Thursday, December 04, 2008
Eric from Charlotte, NC
I looked at these a few years ago when they first came out but couldn't justify the price (around $200.) But when I saw them on special at Buy.com I couldn't resist. I had been using an FM transmitter cradle and wasn't satisfied with the sound quality and position of the ipod. So I wanted to get a unit that plugged directly into the antenna input on the back of the radio. I put this in my Audi A6 and it required 2 extra antenna patch cables ($20) and I had to get a car stereo installer to pull out the radio ($5.) In retrospect, I would probably have them do the whole install as it took me about 3 hours and a lot of cursing. Short of putting in a new aftermarket radio with built-in ipod controls, this setup with direct antenna input is the way to go. It sounds and works great! P.S. my ipod is a 30GB video from around 2005; I don't think this unit works with the iphone or touch models.

5 of 5 Best FM player for iPod! Thursday, October 30, 2008
Janson from Vernon Hills, IL
Even if you are not buying it for all the features it provides, just the FM transmitter is worth the money. I had this for over a month now and I just love it. Pros... 1. It has the best FM tranmitter I've seen so far. The sound quality is good and there was no disturbance from other FM signals. 2. The control know and the display are awesome. The control works very similar to iPod's and looks really good. Cons... 1. Setting this up is a little challenging. It might be good idea to get this installed professionally if you want to hide all the wires and to make it look neat. 2. The center button doesn't work exactly like iPod's. I wish it had the feature to add the currently playing song to "On the go" playlist. 3. Navigating through the list of artists/songs is not as easy as that of iPod. Overall... this is a great product for the buck.
