I bought this for my wife so she could easily plug her Nano into our new H/K 3490. Recently our ancient Sony receiver bought the farm, so I've updated all of our components. This Bridge works very well. I really like how it integrates with the H/K 3490. Our various iPods are all dockable with the included adaptors, and they all charge while docked. The song and artist info is displayed on the receiver screen.
My iPhone works differently. It isn't listed as supported, although the iPod Touch is. The iPhone charges in the Bridge and is controllable by the H/K remote, but the song and artist info is not displayed on the receiver. Rather, the remote directly controls the iPhone and you can use the iPhone screen controls to pick songs and playlists. I gave it a 5 on ease of use because it comes with adequate instructions on how to use the H/K 3490 remote with the Bridge II. I had no trouble navigating songs and playlists, though it does take some practice to get the hang of it.
How does it sound? Well, I've encoded my iTunes music between 192 and 256 kbps in AAC. I was impressed by the clarity of the sound coming through the speakers. I've played iPods through my old stereo without a dock, and it often sounded muddy and underpowered. So now I have a 100 watt receiver, the Bridge II, and Mirage Omnisat v2 speakers and I am very happy with the sound. What part the Bridge II plays in sound quality I don't really know, but it certainly makes the process of playing your compressed digital music from your iPod/iPhone easy and fun.
It looks very modern and minimalist, which appeals to me. It is not obtrusive or clunky looking. So aesthetically it rates a 5 for me. I gave it a 4 for value, simply because it was not inexpensive. I feel that the quality should be worth it, but only time will tell if that perception is born out. Was this review helpful?
